I am trying to update windows vista 64 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I keep getting Error Meassage 0x80008017 when trying to upgrade . This happens when 6% of the files are copied. There is an annotation that that it is trying to copy a missing or corrupt file.

PLEASE LET ME HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS

Hi,
This is not necessarily the correct method but it has worked for me before with other programs, copy your OS to another partition on your hard drive and then do the installation from there. If you do not have and do not know how to create another partition please search the net. Another way is to download a program that will make a virtual Cd on your drive, copy the windows 7 files there and then install.
With that said, I believe that you are far better off to install windows 7 on a separate partition and keep Vista until everything is working well and you are happy. You can then delete Vista later.
