Hi,ihave a samsung np-r519 laptop my niece gave me.It says boot mgr missing on a blue screen and cannot boot win 7 disc from cd ,usb, external cd drive,blue screen etc.Samsung recovery solutions 4 cannot restore windows backup,error in loading files. Blue screen on everything even in safe mode and no prompt,nothing.In the diagnostic test on startup it says pxe-e61 media test failure,pxe-mof exiting pxe rom,thenbootmgr is missing, pressctrl+alt+del to restart.Can anyone please help me with this problem, thanks.

If you have the Windows DVD you can easily fix this issue. Try doing the following steps:
Insert Windows DVD in your laptop DVD tray and reboot your laptop. (Make sure you choose to boot from DVD/CD from BIOS settings).
Set the language, Time and Keyboard when promted. Then finally click on "Repair your comp".
It will try locatiing the Windows installation directory . If not found, select it manually.Then click on "Startup Repair";
Now, it will check for errors and try to fix them. After it is done, reboot your laptop, rmeove the DVD from the DVD tray of your laptop and pray that your laptop will work properly. :)

Have tried that numerous times,i have win 7 dvd. If i put this in my desk top computer it automatically comes up, so the disk is ok but doesn't on laptop, just blue screen with the same message, bootmgr missing etc.. I have original samsung sata hdd. The hdd and dvd/cd rom show in the bios settings. Have even tried an external dvd/cd drive, sill the same. Any idea's, thanks.

What were you doing before this happened? Were you upgrading it to Windows 8, or making some other changes?
Are there any sensitive files or images you haven't yet backed up?
To salvage data and to check that your hard disk is still accessible it would help you to download an Ubuntu Live disc and then boot from that. This will allow you to transfer important files to a USB Stick, or DVD's.
If you are able to do this then that would demonstrate that the drive is still accessible and the filing system is still intact.

Hi bigpaw,i was given the laptop by my niece who said i can have it after having a friend who fixes computers, couldn't fix it. Dont know why it's gone like it.It doesn't matter what disc i put in ,it wont boot up or show on the screen.

This bit in your original post.. "on startup it says pxe-e61 media test failure,pxe-mof exiting pxe rom,thenbootmgr is missing," indicates that your laptop is trying to boot from a network, is probably corporate. No network boot available, so it says boot.mgr missing, and shuts - depending upon the firmware in your sys it may not allow booting from lower options in the order, like an hdd. Remove the network boot option from BIOS, put hdd first, then optical drive. Then, if you wish to reload W7, use the one-time boot selection option.

there is no network boot option in the bios,and i have always set AHCI HDD PO-SAMSUNG HM160HI as 1st boot and AHCI CD P1-TSSTcorp CDDDVDW TS-L633 as 2nd boot order. These are the only ones that show and the only 2 i have got.Not sure on the one time boot selection option?

In the setup utility,it says HDD Password Frozen? and i cannot alter this.

it sounds like:
1. the laptop came from a corp IT.
2. the HDD was password protected, therefore the BIOS setup must be passworded also
3. the boot sector of the HDD is corrupt and network boot is the only other option
to solve the problem u need to be able to get to BIOS settings. Without a password that isn't going to happen.
If u get to BIOS u need to change the boot devices to enable CD boot. However, I suspect that the HDD is going to be permanently useless w/o a PW unless it is the same as the BIOS PW.
if the BIOS is set to allow CD boot, then replacing the HDD and installing the OS is the only option.
If it is an IBM or Lenova, then there is a chance the MB will also have to be replaced because of the PW being stored on the MB.

If any of the BIOS is passworded, i can suggest something that may help reset the BIOs to factory defaults. Open up the laptop and take out the BIOS battery, while making sure the main power battery is out, and unplugged from the mains, leave it out for 10 seconds, then put it back together. From experience, this has helped me get into passworded BIOS's, good luck!!

It could be that your RAM (memory) is corrupting any streaming data. You need to run a memory diagnostic first!
Go to http://www.memtest.org/ and download their utility and create a bootable media that you can run it from. Details are on their website.

hello i have a HP desk top, running on Windows 7 Professional, it gave me the message;PXE,E61, media test failure, check cable, i then asked around, i was told the HDD is not functioning, i then changed the HDD, loaded the DVD ROM with a OS disc but still the same message pops and even worse it won't boot from the DVD ROM/WRITTER, um running out of options.
