I often get this warning message while working and the program inevitably terminates:
"The instruction at "0x10005f6c" referenced memory at "0x10005f6c" .The memory could not be "read" . Click ok to terminate the program."

i have no clue of what this could mean but its slowly irritating me since i always have to end the program , even if i ignore this and just click it away the program ends as well. I d be very thankful if u d let me know what this means and what can i do about it..

One or the combination of these things should help you:

- Manually set memory timings. There is a formula I posted once here that I got confirmed that it is valid by AMD ppl

tras + trp = trc
trc + 4 = trfc

Those acronyms should be adjustable in BIOS.
That is a must with GEIL RAM.

- Increase RAM voltage. Go to the max. If you have GEIL, or any other that has aluminum heatsink, there is no need to worry about overheating. You can only gain stability.

- If you OCed your PC, reduce the speed or increase the voltage. You are on the edge of usable.

i actually made a report of the memory and cpu of my system,as u see i dont have an amd, i dont really understand much of what you replied. U d have to be a bit less technical . How should i increase ram voltage? and how should set the timings? do i need a program for it?

You don't need any software to change those settings. It is not possible change with any software. You need to get in BIOS settings. You can do it when your PC is booting and you see the message on the bottom of the screen saying "press del to enter BIOS" or something. Usually it is del, but it can also be F1, F2, F12... depends on the mobo.

Once you are in, navigate around until you find the DRAM settings.

My BIOS DRAM settings screen looks like this:

You can see above those TRC TRAS TRP and TRFC I mentioned earlier. If you take in account the timing formula....

tras + trp = trc
trc + 4 = trfc

... you can see that they are set wrong.
Bare in mind that first line on the screen. All settings were set on "AUTO", so it is obvious that the BIOS is setting it wrong and producing the errors I got. Same errors you get. You need to set it on "MANUAL" and correct those timings.

You should do the same.
Since I don't know your memory model and it's declared timings (ex. mine is 400Mhz, CLI2.5 8-4-4 <--those are first 5 lines below "timing mode" line), I can't tell you which setting should be where, but the principal is the same. Just set it on manual and implement the formula.

Regarding the voltage, it also set in BIOS, only different screen. Goes up to 3v. I suggest that you leave it be for now.


P.S. It took me over a year to troubleshoot that problem... Look here. Consider yourself lucky.

Sony VIAO VGN-B1XP... Laptop. I could used this little piece of info earlier, before I strayed into the custom-built-desktops waters...

This can only mean that your memory chip came with it. No compatibility issues. All you can do is reseat it or replace it. It is obvious to me that the memory chip is faulty or got shooked out of the socket a bit.

There is a section in manual that describes how to reach that memory. You'll need to remove the keyboard. Pull it out and plug it back it (that is re-seating). Try not to touch metal parts of the chip. Plastic only. Electrostatic discharge from your bare hands can easily fry it. If possible, use PVC bag as glove to avoid contact with metal parts of a chip.

If that doesn't help, you'll need to replace it.

Anyway, check if the warranty is still valid. If it is, use it to get new RAM.

that sounds far too invasive to me ..i think ill learn how to live with the message...in any case this problem was not ther in the past , so i guess it got out of place a bit..

It will not go away. It will die on you eventually, if it is a faulty RAM and not just connections... Use the warranty if it is still valid.
