I just got a netgear wireless access point to add wireless capability to my otherwise wired network. I think that I may have screwed up the IP setup for the LAN port and tried the reset switch on the back to try and go back to square one but I can't seem to access it again. Can anyone help?

Sure. Are you trying the default IP? What models are the router and AP? Are you wired to the router? Are you sure you reset it correctly?
