first thing you need to do is remove the JED that you add, unplug the power cable. if the PSU have a power reset button hold that in see if show green. if it does your PSU is good. with the power cable still out, hgold your PC power button for 15 to 20 seconds. then plug in the power cable and power on the PC.

i never saw where you mentions what was the wattage on the video card and the PSU. if you are pulling too much power you will nto be able to power on. Also are the LED light pulling power directly from the PSU or is there any connection to the MOBO.

with each update on windows 10 microsoft wants to move users away from the old ways. some noticeable featerure on windows 10 1703 is control panel is gone from the right clicking on the start button. commang prompt is replaced by powershell. you can still use these but they are burried in the operating system. as for thing you might have disabled, yes the crator update will reset them, the best way to uninstall windows apps is to use a powershell command Click Here

BTW, you dont want to delete that windows.old folder if for any reason you want to go back to the previous version. but if youa re sure you will not you can do a disk clean up

if you drag the file from the cryptcontainer, then in essesne you moved the file, so it is no longer in the cryptcontainer, now when you drag it onto a cd-r you are again moving the file. if the write to the cd was not done to completion, the file is obliterated, gone no longer exist. the only way to get back this file is to see if your cryptcontainer has a shadow copy, right click on cryptcontainer folder, go to properties, then previous version. you can do the same to the desktop folder if the file resides there for a day or over 12 hours. other than that, your file is gone.

Check the root of the external drive for a file name autorun.inf. it will point to an ico file on the root or in anotehr folder that came on the drive from the manufacturer. if the folder or file is missing you will get the default windows 10 icon stored in the registry. you can also change the autorun.inf to point to any ico file you want. download the one you want from the internet. type this in the autorun.inf file on the root of the usb. substitute "icon file name" for the name of the ico file that you choose.

like any electronic device you need to drain the battery ( let it die) then keep device off and give a full recharge. As caperjack say if you have the facility to plug it in do so, but use the battery on a regular basis with out the electrical. only plug in when the PC say it need to be plugged in.

constant charging and not discharging will reduce the life of the battery.

when the PC start do you see the BIOS screen? can you et int to the bios? does the mother board have a built in VGA? take out the hard drive, the memory and then boot up the PC. if it stays on then put in one item at a time. ALO you might want to check the heat sink of the CPU, remove and clean and pout on new thermal grease.

do you have an external monitor you can connect to the paltop VGA port. if the external monitor show your laptop scren, try this. power down, open laptop again check the cable that goues from the laptop screen to the mother board it a flat cable, make sure it is snug in the slot on the mobo. if that does not work check the cable for breakage. if its broken you would need a whole new screen for the laptop. unless at each end,- screen and mobo - you have a clicp to snapp each end in place.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

yes you can. if its a SAT you will have availabe ports on the mother board to connect it to. if its a IDE you would have to get an adapter or IDE to USB and use it as an external drive.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

Do this , when the compuer start, go into the BIOS and see what sata mode the hard drive is in. if it says ACHI change it to legacy or IDE or ATA but some other mode than ACHI. give that a try.

if that does not work, connect the hard rive back to another computer and use windows disk manager to create a new partition ( wiping the drive) then put it back and try.

are you using a flash drive or a cd/dvd to install.

3 bring it to a computer store to get this all done.

the power switch pins were connected correctly. the board comes with a jumper that you can plug all the cables on to, then connect it to the mobo. all thefans works fine. including the one in the PSU. the stand off were alreay installed in the case. and they line up with all the holes on the mobo.@ caperjack. all case use stand off. it's those screw like what you would screw in you monitor cable pin into. they prevent the mobo from grounding out with the case. the power and reset were connected correctly. i could use the button to turn on and off the PC the reset button works ok also.

bobbyraw 16 Nearly a Posting Virtuoso

switching you power suply to 230 or 110 does not affect your motehr board. that switch is only for the power suply. the output cables from the power supply are not afected. example if you moley is designed to vive 12Vdc that would not change if youe switch the poerw switch on the PSU. that voltage is regilated inside the PSU with capacitor and transformers. they keep the voltage regulated to the output cables. now on to the memory issue. did you buy compatable memory module. same clock speed and wattage.

lesson dont ever buy momory base on the same length and pins. do a memory scan at crucial or 4allmemory. it will tell you what you have and whats compatable with what you have.

take out all the memory, put back the PSU to the original voltage. restart the PC with the original memory. listen for beeps. if any search google for the error that correspond. then shut down and try and new memory. listen for beeps again.

ok so here is the skinny. i had this computer for some time. i got a new case and moved everything to the new case now i cannot get any beeps, no post and the mobo has the power light on it. this was working fine in the old cae. i simple shutdown remove the power cable remove all the parts and install in the new case.
here is what i have done so far.
remove all all the components from the mobo. (memory, CPU, hard drive)still no beep no post Mobo has no built in VGA so the external is nescessary.
remove the mobo from the case, put on anti static plastic bags. with now component except video card still no beep, no POST

as of right now i have remove the cmos battery and put every thing aside.
i am here asking if anyone has an insight on whats happening. it's kinda strange a MObo would go bad just from one case to anotehr. i have built several PC never run into this before

base on your response below. what files or program you are trying to use on windows 7. i have found that if you right clcik the installation file and choose compatability mode it works most of the time. let us know what programs you are reffering to. if its just files like DOC, Xls and so on you can open them in the newer version of office. you will loose minor stuss like formatting and fonts but not data. then just reformat and save the file in the new office format.

Thanks for your reply.

I purchased a new HP Pavilion Elite that came with Windows 7 already installed.

I checked the link you sent and it says XP can be installed in Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Elite. My new computer, unfortunately, is Windows 7 Home Premium.

I still have my lap top with XP so I guess I will need to use that for my old files !!

Thanks for trying any way.

Hope.

when the random power off happens is that after the PC has been runnig for a period of time. does it happen if you shut off the pc turn it back on the next day.when a CMOS battery is bad it does not prevent the system from booting. you will get a bios message that the battery needs to be changed or you have to reset the time. system fan turn off after you start the PC is soem times normal thats just an initializing of the fan. you bios setting maybe be set to run the fan only when the cpu reaches a certain temp. no display on the monito can be a bad vga cable have you tried another monitor or cable. try the monitor on a laptop, try a different cable. if noe of those work, get a new monitor. because you did mention that the PC beeps when you power it up. is this an onboard VGA or PCI card.

your registry is not the problem. the HDD is. the registry error you are getting is because that reg key is located on a dying or dead sector of the HDD. keep both HDD in the PC and boot with a live CD. you can build your own with BartPE, or use one of the various linux/Ubuntu or active@boot. then transfer your files to the ne hard drive. you might get some errors if file that are being transfered are located in the bad sector. when the file transfer is completed. use the same live cd to partition and reformat the hard driver this will truely let you know how badly damaged the drive is. base on the time it takes to format or partition.

the power might not be compatable with the new mobo. try different setting and verify. also does the mobo come with an onboarg VGA. if so connect the monitor to the VGA if you get signal. restArt and disable the onboard VGA in the bios the bios might also give you the option to select the added card.

you have to start the PC to fix the problem. when you restart checl the event log for any errors. as D Ace said it might be a one time thing. base one the key stroke you completed. i would also suggest that you disable the log in process until you resolve the problem ( if it arise again) BTW how do you log into the PC do you have to press Ctrl+ALT+DEL. turn that off, unlees you are loggin in to a domain.if you MUST use a password use the local logon where is shows user name then you select and enter your password.

i see where you are going with this. but i have tried it on brand new laptop (3days old) still shows u as 750GB. let me also add that when i got the HDD it did show up as the right size. the problem started when i format with the WD software. Have you tried to use the last known good configuration - Press F8 when the pc is booting up. Also have you tried to do a windows repair.( i am assuming you have windows 7) if non of those work. then try the restore option with the cd. that will fix the hard drive and restore every thing back to factory default(this option will cause you to lose data). if that still does not work bring it back you still have warranty.

if you have alot of data on the disk that you do not want to loose then you have to back it up some how, either online, connect it to another PC, borrow or buy a externam hard drive. then return the hard drive you still have warranty on it. if any of what i suggest fails here is a program you can down load to run a scan and repair if the hard drive corrupted. HDD regenerator. the full version cost around $30. i have used it to fix dying HDD but only if you have the time or another PC to connect it to. the process can be very long depending on how corrupted the HDD is.

i need some help with this one see spec below
the pc starts up fine but within a few minutes it shuts down (power down) this happens even in safe mode. i ahve tested each memory block individually and they all work but the machine still shut down. when booting with the cd to do a repair it shuts down. i have checked the CPU and the grease was dry so i put on new grease. it still shuts down. the fan on the cpu works fine and there is no excess heat coming off the cpu. i tried a new working hard driver and still got the same shut down problem.the bios is a raid config and ther is no changing it. there is one 1 hard drive that the bios detects, i do not beleive the problem is in the bios as new hard drive was detected. but no matter what i do the pc shuts down either after loading the desktop or while booting.
i am leaning to some fault on the MOBO. as this is the only thing i cannot change to test the shut down process.

you can get your data back there are many programs available for that soem you would have to buy and there are the ffree ones. but the most important thing you will bneed is an interface cable with another computer. i am going to asume this is an IDE drive that crash. yo can putchane a usb to IDE cable that comes with power also. connect to your present compuer or a fried computer and run the recovery software. i have personally used get date back and got back evry thing that was on the drive. your woule need the fat version seeing that it was windows 98 installed on the HDD

Also let us know did you install any new software or hardware then sart to get the restart issue?

Take out all the ram, restart the PC, if you get a bios stop error then the PC will still work if you do not et the bios error message, find the CMOS battery and remove it also remove the laptop battery. then reinsert CMOS battery and laptop battery after 48 hour (just to be safe) (still leaving out the memory) then check if you get the bios memory issue.
