What options exactly do you need to transfer your files?

If you want to access your pc from your laptop, here's the shortcut .. just type the following command in your Run dialog.

\\yourPCName
Where yourPCName is the name of your PC.
If you want to know the name of your PC, just right click My Computer --> Properties --> Computer Name. You can find the full computer name there.

Great to see your happy gerbil .. I just showed you one direction and you created another by yourself..

Windows has special registry keys for manipulating the Drives as shown or hidden. One cool way of opening multiple drives (you said you could only open one drive at a time) is by opening My Computer window and writing the drive letter in the address bar e.g, if I want to open E drive, I will open My Computer, type E:\ in the address bar and boom ... the drive is wide open. You can open multiple drives this way.

As far as your problem is concerned, I can only redirect you to my article about hiding the drives in My Computer. You can check if the group policy has not restricted your drives access. Otherwise check the registry which I mentioned in the article.

If you still can't solve the problem ... then may be we can craft another solution ...

Thanks RueB2sDe for creating the floppy disc part .. but I don't really love it that way. I always install recovery console on my system startup for emergency purposes. Otherwise I use the CD ROM as floppies are disappearing from the tech world :). But that would certainly help a person with no Windows disc.

nanosani 20 Technize.net addict Team Colleague

Hmm .. that's usually an inaccessible boot device error. This usually happens if your MBR or some windows system files get corrupted. So how can you fix this? Here's what you can do.

Boot your system from CD ROM drive using Windows installation disc. Go to console recovery mode and issue the following commands:

chkdsk /f /r c: (where c: is your windows drive)
When this commands completes its operations, issue the following command:
fixboot

Hopefully, your windows machine will boot normally.

Start your computer and keep tapping F8 to bring up the advanced boot options. Select disable automatically restart option. If there is blue screen of death, tell us its error code.

nanosani 20 Technize.net addict Team Colleague

Yes I think Advanced Power Control options is not set in windows xp..

nanosani 20 Technize.net addict Team Colleague

When you startup the system, press F8 to open advance startup options, select disable automatically restart option .. Then it'll not restart automatically on error. If blue screen of death comes, tell us the error code.

You can also set the NTFS permissions such that one OS cant access the drive of the second one.

Make sure your screen saver isn't kicking you out of full-screen mode. Also, turning of the Enable full-screen mode switch feature might solve the problem. In Windows Media Player 9 Series or later, do the following:
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Performance tab.
Click Advanced.
Clear the Enable full-screen mode switch check box.

If its a hardware ... just go to device manager and disable the devices that are creating problems ....

and if its a software run msconfig and uncheck any startup programs related to the software which install wizard is trying to install.

Nah ... I never scrubbed my hard drive until I sold it out ... but if you are more concerned about your privacy then you can certainly do it on a regular basis ...

nanosani 20 Technize.net addict Team Colleague

Scrubbing a disk means writing over each bit on the drive with new and usually random information. If you delete your files from the recycle bin even then it'll be possible to access that information ... scrubbing is a means to erase that information.

There are tools that can scrub the disk ... US department of Defence recommends scrubbing a disk 7 times.

Scrubbing is usually done when a hard drive is sold or given to someone.

We arent bothering you about anything either :D .. just suggesting some recommendations .. anywayz your windows will run on 256 mb of ram.

>How can you stop windows to crash ..

If ever there's a crash .. do remember to note the error code (its like this 0X000000xx .. where xx is any digit or letter) and tell us the error code .. we'll tell you its cure.

nanosani 20 Technize.net addict Team Colleague

If you're planning to have windows xp with service pack 2 ... then I would recommend atleast 512 mb of ram ... otherwise you can also run windows on 256mb ram fine (I have 256 mb of ram with windows xp sp1) ... but as casperjack said that you'll need another 128 mb for smooth performance.

nanosani 20 Technize.net addict Team Colleague

You can change the drive letters by right clicking my computer --> manage --> disk management --> right clicking any drive and first removing its drive letter and then reassigning it another one if it's available.

The more popular a browser get, the more chances it gets to be exploited. I know of hackers who just exploit IE amazingly. And the most arguable thing is that IE is built into windows so its more vulnurable to attacks than any other browser. I also use IE alot ... but I also use Mozilla and Opera. All of them are secure if you have done some security measures for your operating system.
