wilj;
I'm gonna take a stab at this from the example I found referencing the notation. It seems that the operands are all considered binary expressions; therefore, in context, what you're looking at is a string of individual number values. That makes the 42 and 56 two sets of two integers each. The first set of two consists of the numerical values 4 and 2 rather than components of the expression forty-two. The same goes for the next set of integers, 5 and 6, which should not be construed as anything like 56.
The sequence in which the operators are to be applied to the individual operands relies upon proximity. The equations, as written, are + / 4 2 + 5 6 ... In this type of notation, the operators are put ahead of the operands. That is, the action to take is put ahead of the things acted upon. This means that what is closest to being resolvable gets evaluated first. What is seen of what's written, when observed closely, is + 5 6.
This means add 5 and 6. The result is 11. The expression then looks like this:
+ / 4 2 11...
The next decipherable equation that you can see is / 4 2... That means divide 4 by 2. You are now left with an equation that looks like this: + 2 11... This is the last expression to be seen in the lot, and just means "add two to …

What HE said(and She)... Cutting loose the chains of bondage, lifting the burdens of the oppressed, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the lonely and outcast, housing those who have no home--- in whatever interpretation or context these are able to apply... Sounds like a lesson in Freedom to me, regardless the captor or captive... If our gifts enable us to cut those chains, what do we gain by permitting them to remain; and, if we refuse to act because we are afraid we will have no effect, what have we gained through inaction except the knowledge that fear won out?
Those who hold their own pain as a thing perpetually to be misunderstood and unknowable by anyone else have denied all potential remedy from others, thereby becoming enamored of their chains as part of their identity; and, while no one can see through their eyes or feel with their heart or reason with their mind, neither do they qualify to render critique upon those making efforts despite this type of impediment. We don't need to know firsthand what it is like to have a third-degree burn before we understand the gravity of the situation for one who is so burned; and, those having been burned in such a way themselves can know of the pain without the need to feel through the nerves of one so burned. The idea is to alleviate as much pain as possible, heal the wound if possible, and try to understand as …

I agree completely, iamthwee... Hope is the point, when depression is the issue. The loss of hope is the loss of faith; and, when someone no longer feels there's anything to place their faith in, especially in their own value, isolation can become deadly. If we allow that to go on without exerting whatever positive influence we may afford, then we've written somebody off in some way. If our influence brings to bear those things they can connect with that gets them back to a place where they can deal with their own circumstances, and puts an emphasis upon what core truths everyone should keep as their own treasure, then at least the attitudes and emotions involved in what is an otherwise downward spiral to destruction are addressed--- and may do some good...

There's really no way to gauge the severity of depression in any individual from their words, since some people clam up and isolate themselves. It is only after something dreadful has happened that any proof is seen. All the rest is guesswork, albeit under a doctor's supervision or not; and, while medication can do a great amount of good for some, for others it has the opposite effect. Along with whatever may be prescribed, if at all, therapy is vital for breaking the depressive cycle. This can be informal or formal; and, talking about things is a large part of that. If someone has started to talk, then there's seen in that to be still a …

Bravo... We have the same hero... He took on all of every oppressive force, and was nailed to a tree under a curse because of it; then, dared to rise from the dead. His one message was, and still is, FREEDOM. Many seem to overlook the simplicity and reality of this, not "Living" that freedom, and the sincere Love that produced it. Such passionate commitment is never without a price; and, to not feel such passion is to refuse to live, letting the meaning elude us--- while our brother perishes. You, it seems, recognized this in the words I penned--- which aren't exactly my own, just my own rendition, in different terms, of what you know. He does, after all, "restoreth my soul". And, it is written that for each child born, an angel is stationed at the foot of the Throne to pray for him... That's something precious to keep, along with the Gifts of The Spirit. Sharing these things, and the knowledge of them, is an exercize in Faith, Hope, and Love--- and it is a "Good" thing--- especially when it is seen reflected back by someone else. Again; Bravo... You do know...

You kinda hadda be there; and, for somebody considering going literally underground and pushing up daisies over what feels to them like a betrayal, they need every bit of artillery to be had. No bandaids will do. And, like I said--- part of his purpose was, evidently, to bring this discussion here where it will be seen and thought about by others who could get into the same type of shape, or know those who will. Everybody needs to know these things; and, they need to take them to heart. Maybe then, in one small segment of the population, a parent won't have to worry over what an SSRI is doing to their kid--- or not doing--- and dreading the result in the middle of a sleepless night... If this helps release somebody's soul from the torture they are trying on their own to endure, then the cause of Freedom can go forward--- one more day...

Flaco, there have been a lot of good words posted here by a lot of good people; but, there are a few things that escaped being mentioned, which I feel are important for you to consider. One of those things is the fact that suicide is a permanent "solution" to a temporary problem. I know that's not the way it feels; but, it is, nonetheless, a fact--- and it affects a whole lot of people other than just you...

Another thing you need to do is t take a good look in the mirror and realize: Somebody is looking back at you. That somebody is still standing. That somebody is here because Somebody took time to create a one-of-a-kind person to stand in your shoes, in this time, for a certain purpose--- and nobody else can do the job... There's only one of you, and you're it... You're the only "You" we've got. You were created just as you are, because nobody else can fit where you are meant to fit or do what you can do. This discussion is all part of that. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY can take away what you've got that was given only to you. Don't throw it away.

You need to realize that you are vulnerable right now, and will be for some time. This can cause you to project more of what you think an ideal relationship should be onto the relationship you now have; and, that's not where it's …

Is it pronounced to rhyme with the word "goof"; or, as some would have it, to rhyme with the word "hoof"? For a child just learning the language in written form in school, this can be a bit confusing as spoken by a teacher--- and there appears to be no real consensus...

As for the divide between neighbors separated by "the pond", it is interesting to note the differences in terms applied to things common to both countries. An American will know what is spoken of when an automobile component is referred to by the word "hood"; but, will be confused by the word "bonnet". And what of that wonderful variation in terms describing what is a resident means of gaining information in most households? Is it the "Telly" or the "T.V."? (Or, am I confusing that with the telephone?)

Then, there's the place where all must go once in a while, without exception... Is this "the Loo", "the watercloset", "the toilet", or some other place?

And let's not forget what can become of what are taken for granted as well-known products, domestically. The rout-o-rooter pronunciation discussion begs the question: "What does a waggle-bird do?"

Those ancients like me have heard this tune, and can sympathize with those whose ears receive a sharp pain in hearing certain types of "non-standard" sound.

The accepted, though unspoken rule of thumb is to refer to whatever it is which is the intended target of your query or statement as simply "one of THOSE"; or, "THAT thing", while pointing with the index finger in the general direction of the item. I'm gonna take another short stab at this, and say that number three might be Jet.
Some sources compare it to black amber, and others stipulate that its formation comes from wood under high pressure and salt water, which fossilizes it. Even more sources say it is lignite in one of its forms(soft jet), which is coal; and, that imitations of jet have been made from anthracite.
All of this is, like the rest, something known in antiquity and used for ornaments and jewelry. Beads and necklaces, with a heavy cotton thread to hold the beads in place.

Am I close, EnderX?

jbarry315 16 Light Poster

EnderX;
You asked for numbers...

What I gather in the first riddle leads me to believe it is amber. It comes in various colors, mainly represented as a golden substance, was known in ancient times, was believed through the ages to hold mysterious powers, was considered valuable, is a solidified form of a sap of a type of conifer, and has been discovered by many to have within its recovered pieces the remains of different bugs that became subsequently imprisoned--- extinct, ancient bugs.

The second riddle leads me to believe coral is involved. Not a plant, but an animal, each part is very small and beautiful; but, gathered together, coral can form some of the most treacherous and sharp reefs known.

The third riddle makes me think of ebony. This wood is prized for its color, its durability, its ability to take a lustre, and its incredible density. It is so dense that it will not float; and it, too, was known by the ancients--- who used it for fine cabinetry and ornamental pieces.

The fourth appears to be pearl. This, too, was highly prized through the ages; and, the East was where many pearls were harvested. Everyone has, of course, heard of "Mother of Pearl" also.

So it seems we have something involving treasure, ornamentals, trade, the East, and possibly a reef--- not to mention the sea. Now you can see why I asked about a map. Lacking that, You do, of course, …

You are in a difficult position in which many will find themselves. You have the assurances of an officer of a company upon which you must rely; yet, you do not have any demonstrated substance with which you can back up those assurances. While what you have been assured of may be the absolute truth, things do change; and, things get put onto the back burner--- or forgotten... Or, as is the case in many business dealings today, some things not agreed to by those in charge of implementation can be left to "burn out" on their own... Tech support often finds the little unfair quirks that put some individuals, and everyone else downstream of them, into unfair and unyielding situations...

Take, for instance, the young lady, new on the job, who becomes victim of an error message appearing upon her desktop PC at work. In tears, she's calling tech supprot to find out what she could've done to cause the problem; and, has been furiously attempting to follow the instructions the computer is giving her, all to no avail...

After gently calming her down and assuring her that if she still has a legible screen on her monitor to work with that she hasn't "killed it", the tech specialist is able to narrow the problem down to a badly worded error message, which she has interpreted as a command to her by her machine. She is new to this, new on the job, and terrified; and, what has appeared on her monitor in glaringly bold, capital letters, within an error message box emblazoned with a healthy "WARNING" tag, are the following words:
"TYPE MISMATCH"...
... AND SHE HAS BEEN TYPING THE WORD "MISMATCH" FOR AN HOUR WITHOUT SUCCESS...
