I prefer to set initial and max to the same amount(~1.5 to 2 times the ram) so there is no resizing. If you could swing another stick of 256MB ram you'll be rockin' :D

It sounds like your CDRom drive is the problem since it's having trouble reading the cd and you've confirmed that another system reads the cd fine. I'd try another cdrom drive. You can download boot floppies from Microsoft if you can't boot from CD.

If you're able to get to the printer's properties, try switching to direct printing in the spool settings on the Details tab and switch the format from EMF to Raw.

Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and open Security Center. On the left hand side of the window is 'Resources'(click on the arrows on the end to expand it if necessary); click on "Change the Way Security Center Alerts Me" and uncheck Automatic Updates in the Alert Settings.

What type of printer are you using? From what you've stated, my guess would be that you are using a PCL print driver; since PDF is basically postscript you'd likely get better results using a Postscript driver.

Do you have the Quick Launch Toolbar enabled? You can check this by right clicking on the Taskbar, point to Toolbars, and look for a check mark beside Quick Launch. If it isn't checked just left click on Quick Launch to enable it.

I had similar issues with XP Pro on a system I built. Updating my motherboard drivers fixed me up; you may also want to check for BIOS updates. I actually tried a BIOS update first but I still experienced lock ups.

Run Defrag from a command prompt with the /f switch. This will 'force' the defragmentation even if space is low.
