Try this: Uninstall it from Windows. Then unplug it and reboot. Reinstall the drivers, then plug it in. USB devices usually have to have the driver installed BEFORE you connect them up.

That 'beep' sound will almost certainly be a warning signal from your equipment indicating that something is wrong with it. You will need to provide us with further information: * What make/model is the PC? What make/model is the motherboard? * What is the frequency and duration of beeps? (e.g. …

I regret that feelings have been offended here, and would ask that patience be displayed to allow a more co-ordinated approach to be devised and implemented. Kevin, I'd not like …

REboot into Safe mode. If the system is successful in doing so you'll know that software loading with Windows is the cause of the problem. Performing a virus scan and also scanning for adware, spyware and trojans is most effective when done in Safe mode.

err.... uummm...... That Quaddro FX might be okay for a system which is intended to do Workstation Graphics, but if the system is intended for 3D games then it's an expensive way to get less performance than from a current top-end gaming card. And if the system is intended for …

Dismantle it again. Reassemble it correctly. You will most likely have some internal component out of place, and it is stopping the keyboard from functioning. It is not a good idea to disassemble keyboards for cleaning!

Disagree nanosani. You get more performance improvement from a better video card than from a RAM increase for gaming. That said, the combination of a 1GHz processor, a Gf4MX, and 256Mb of SD-RAM is beyond redemption when you are talking in terms of today's latest games. Whatever you upgrade is …

The Dell dimension 4500, according to the specs I've seen, uses an i845E chipset and a Prntium 4 processor. That chipset allows for temperature monitoring via sensors, and shutdown control in BIOS setup. Those features may or may not be present in your system. "Name brand' manufacturers often omit such …

There is absolutely no need for an Athlon64 for such tasks. An AMD Sempron would be perfectly adequate and considerably cheaper. The cheapest of motherboards for the particular socket format would also be perfectly adequate. Hell! A secondhand motherboard fitted with a Pentium 3 would be perfectly adequate!

On the back of the power supply unit you should find a small red switch which converts from 220v to 110v. If you've tried running it with only half the voltage necessary coming from the power outlet then I'm not surprised that it doesn't work.

AdAware should be downloaded from the Lavasoft website. If you got it from elsewhere please contact the moderator you refer to and get them to check the link. No hitchhikers should accompany AdAware.

Reset CMOS. If the system fails to POST correctly after an overclock, then physically resetting CMOS is the standard procedure for correcting the situation. You should find instructions in the motherboard manual.

You've omitted the most important bit of info. What storage capacity are those drives you have? Even 250 to 300Gb hard drives now fall into the 'affordable' category, so if you need to add storage space using larger drives might be the most obvious and immediate answer. You DON'T need …
