I'm not sure I follow. How do you change the ip of a router. I have the option of setting one in the wireless repeater menu, but usually routers just default to 192.168.1.1 I'm not sure how to change that.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Hello, I've been trying to set up a wireless repeater for my house for the past day and I am stumped as to why it is not working. I have two netgear routers, one is a wndr3300 and the other is a wndr4000. Here's what I tried so far.

  • I set up the SSID, channels, and security for the base station router(wndr4000).(It would only let me use WEP encryption for Wireless repeating for some reason)

  • I then enabled the wireless repeating function on the base station router, and put in the 1st MAC address of the repeater router(wndr3300. It had two MAC addresses, one for each band I assume, but I used the first one)

  • After that I went into the menu of the repeater router(wndr3300) and changed the SSID and such to match that of the base station router.

  • Finally I enable the wireless repeating function on the wndr3300 and put in the MAC address of the base station router and set it to use the ip address of 192.168.1.15

However after completing all of these steps it doesn't seem to work. As soon as I enable the repeating function on the wndr3300 it will no longer let me connect to the router. I have no internet access or access to the config menu of the router from wireless or wired connection. When running ipconfig in command prompt when hard lined, the default gateway is blank and the ipv4 address is some windows default one.

Is there anyway to download a redirecting php file using it's link. I tried just using the right click the link and "save target as" option, but it processes the redirect first and I end up download the index.htm file of the site you get redirected to. Any ideas?

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

You would input it into a IDE that would run it. As for the Hsa Console change the c to System.out in the printlns and delete the c in the c.readInt. That would probably work.

Java Code that creates a random number between 1 and 100 and then asks the user to guess the number and tells if the guess was too high, too low or, the right number. Loops until right number is guessed.

Ok I see your using tables. In which case the easiest way to do this is to open the html in notepad or something similar and find the top most <table> tag and just add align=center to it like this.

<table align="center">
kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Well the div tag basically makes an imaginary box around whatever is inside it and yes it will align everything in between the two div tags.

If you want a good program I recommend Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, but that cost a good chunk of money I believe, however there is a free trial you can download on the adobe site.

Ok so I set up this pretty snazzy website and everything looks good and dandy until you unmaximize the window. Then several images start to overlap. Also on some computers it overlaps when unmaximazed and others it doesn't. All were viewed from FF3 so its not different browsers causing the problem.

Anybody know a way around this?

Here's a link to the site.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Well you could do it one of two ways. The first way is against the current standards but it still works and that is to do something like this:

<div align="center>Text/Whatever</div>

The other way is to use CSS which could be done several different ways but I'll just show you the one where you put it straight into the tag:

<div style="position:absolute;left:15%;">Text/Whatever</div>

That says start the box at point 0,0 of whatever its contained in and move it 15% away from the left side. You can play with the percent to align it perfectly center.

There are probably other ways as well, but I can't name any off the top of my head.

I just had to install the chipset and drivers from my recovery disc. :)

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Ok seeing as there isn't really a sound card section in the hardware board, and considering I know Windows XP Black Edition is what caused it I'm posting here.

Ok So I reformatted using the Windows XP disc that came with my computer. Immediatly after that I reformatted again using the Windows XP Black Edition Disc I made. Everything went smoothly except that now my system doesn't Recognized my sound card.

The Realtek soundcard that my comp has is at least 6 years old. I've tried installing drivers for it, but none have worked. I've checked to make sure the Windows Audio Service is started and everything. Also when I open sound properties it just shows greyed out boxes where my sound cards name should be.

Unfortunely I can't give you the exact model because my computer isn't recognizing it. I also think it is integrated into the motherboard. It isn't PCI or anything like that.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

You've tried:

table{
 position:absolute;
 left:25%;
    }

right?

Zamqish, Please don't reply to 2 year old topics that have already been solved. If you have a problem post a new thread with a meaningful title. Thanks. :)

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Yeah Nevermind. The second keyboard I had attached to the computer fell off on its enter key. I feel stupid now.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Google "TweakUI" There is an option in there to change what is in the new> part of the right click. I wouldn't recommend messing with anything else unless you know what your doing though.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Eh most of em are fake codecs and it usually turns out to be the zlob trojan. Nothing a scan with AVG cant handle. :)

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

This is the first time I've seen this happened on anybody's computer. My computer suddenly without opening anything of downloading/installing something, started make the enter key command rapidly repeat itself. It will press it so fast that I can't even type my password to log onto the computer.

Does anybody know the cause of this so I can just jump into safe mode and fix it?

Thanks in advance.

TV is lousy right now :@ Nothing but old reruns.

Theres always the internet! They have tv on that. :)

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

I remember you!! (Are you surprised?)

Yay! A little. I had a hunch you would remember me. :)

I would say more but I have to get my calc homework done. I really hate graphing functions using derivitives. :(

I'll be on tommorrow though.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

yes they are equal ,and once you delete the old one you can change the name of the new one to the same name as the old one .i think with out any problems ,been a while since i had to do this myself

Unfortunetly after applying this idea it failed horribly. And what I would have to do to get the same settings would take forever so I say I just suffer through the black background. :)

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

transfer what the settings .? I wouldn't know what they were !
If it were mine i would just copy the desktop icons, and my documents folder to the new acct .
go to mycomputer/C:\ drive /documents and settings ,go into the old user desktop folder and copy all and then go to the new user and paste it all into the desktop folder ,same with the my documents folder and anything else you want copied besides apps

I was thinking about that but I was lazy and wanted to see if there was an easier way. The one thing I'm concerned about is how do I tranfer ownership of the computer from the current account to the new account. Or since they are both admins are they equal?

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

yeah...

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Just another note. the black behind the icons isn't gone for good it returns if you open a window and goes away if you refresh the desktop.

Thats just for the black behind the icons the black behind the text is still there.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

CU i think. Um, google for it. I have a list somehwere. Ill look for it (lol i worked out all the keys to make a policy editor for xp home)

Hehe nice. I just know my way around the registry cuz I have to disable download blocks to get firefox on my school computers because we are working with css in class and IE doesn't render it right.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

MS had a tool. Um, i think its in the server 2003 tools or something.

Hmm well half of it fixed itself randomly so now only the black background around the text is still there.

Also you don't happen to know off the top of your head where all the desktop keys are do you?

I'm thinking HKCU?Software>Microsoft>Windows>currentversion>desktop.

Or would it be local machine?

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Two questions:

1. Are all of the icons somehow selected?

2. What kind of file is the wallpaper?

No and jpg or bmp or gif...tried em all.

Hmm it just half fixed it self. When I choose a new wallpaper and clicked apply and then chose another one the black space around the icon part went away.

But now the black background for the text is still there. The icon thing seemed more like when you try and select a background with the magic wand tool and everythings one solid color except for around the main thing in the image. Thats what it was like...but now its gone. Just need some help on the black background behind the text.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

all i can say is some spyware/trojans has registry settings for that user corrupt ,and the new user creates its own new registry settings for stuff like the desktop .

Any easy way to transfer em?

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

wierd. Maybe the skin?

Nope it was there before I ever applied any skins.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

have you tried creating a new user acct. and see how its desktop works out

I just did and it works perfectly. Any ideas why?

I checked the settings and they were almost identical except for the background color, which I try changing on the main user account but it just changes the black behind the icon and text to whatever color background I change it to.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Looks like that you had a good run with ur e machine but the E-Curse is catching up with ya...

The funny thing is the desktop has been like that for 3 years so nothings gotten worse it was just crappy from the beginning. Well I guess thats what you can expect from an emachine though. :D

Oh And at niek_e: It was already uncheck so I tried checking it and then unchecking it but that didn't work. I'm messing around with TweakUI right now so I guess I'll see what happens with that. :)

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Yup I tried messing with all those already. I noticed drop shadow as well but nothing changes whether its checked or not.

I'm downloading TweakUI now although I remember downloading it a while ago and nothing worked. :/

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

In some cases that's true -- I also like some infomercials.

I'm a sucker for any cooking infomericals.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Now you know why so many folks watch TV because of the commercials rather than the lousy content of the program.

Probably cuz the commericials are better than the shows. :P

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

sorry, but i dont remember you :(

Well the funny things is your one of the people I remember. :) I think I used to see you in the Viruses Spyware and Other Nasties forums quite alot.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

First let me say you must have one of the good EMachine if you haven't had to format it in 3 yrs .
have you tried changing the setting for it in control panel/system/advanced /performance /settings and do a for best performance setup, check off the 5-6-7 ones from the top and the bottom 3 in the list

Hehe, its after I had the trojan I came to daniweb in the first place and then dedicated myself to learning how to be a malware removal expert. And while I don't consider myself the best I do think I do a lot better job then some people hired to do the stuff I do. i.e. Geeksquad. So I do keep my computer clean and In the best running condition I can. Not to mention replacing and improving parts. :)

Anyways yes I've tried all that, possibly every combination of checks and unchecks. Unfortunetly nothing seems to work. :\

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

yeah I'm still working on that, it's not supposed to happen :p

Hehe. Ok then just thought I should mention it. :)

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

So have you not removed the trojan yet as you say the problem is 3 years old or so?

No its longs gone. My computer is clean and everything else works just fine. Also another bit of info. If I do a system restore to as far back as I can go the icon will be transparent until I open a window or try and change the desktop.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

HD DVD has been abandoned.
But no, BluRay is no better. It just had more money behind it, Sony bought their market position instead of earning it through technical merits.

Thats what I thought. :/

The easiest thing i would try first is to find out your ip(there are several ways) and then try and connect to your computer using limewire. Then if you had you password saved in any files he could get it easily. That is of course if you allow this and dont have a firewall.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

get a HDTV and then get a blu-ray player :D...i don't think they got a composite video out(don't know for sure),there'll probably be a component out so if ur tv supports component in go for it,but go for a HDTV will ya cuz you wont get da blu-ray experience wiv a normal tv :)

Is it really that much better than HD DVDs? I mean I look at the displays in the stores and compare the two and there is barely a difference if any.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Well you might remember me from a while ago as a moderator in the viruses nasties and other spyware forum, who then step down and disappeared. I realized that being the moderator and going through post after post of hjt logs while rewarding was not something I had time to do. Now however I find it much easier to manage time and say no to things that put me in bad situation. Really what I'm trying to say is that after a leave of absense I have decided to come back to the forum. :) I may not spend as much time on it as I did before but I will certainly come one at least once a day and hang. A hello to everyone that remembers me and to those that don't know me I hope I'll get to know you guys better.

kylethedarkn 23 A.K.A. The Laughing Man Team Colleague

Well this is quite an old problem caused by a trojan a long time ago. three years or so. In any case it left my desktop background icons unable to have tranparency. Heres a screenshot.

The Nav Bar at the top seems a little messed up in Firefox. When you hover over one of the links all of the links to the left of it change to underneath it and blink. Very annoying, unless of course its for the feel of the website. :)
