In one of the mysql forums somebody posted that if the log files has “-” in its name, that may lead to crash. I’ve ensued that log files doest have “-” in its name. Still the problem exists. What might be the possible reasons for crashing DB like this?

You check the mysql binary log, so as to know what the server was doing at the time of the crash.
