What is the basic difference between Visual C++ and .NET? Isn't Visual C++ part of .NET?

no. Neither is the other or is part of the other.
Yet both exist together and help each other in various ways.

I thought all the Win32 APIs included with Visual C++ were part of .NET?

nope. They're quite separate.
They're both part of Windows, and .NET couldn't exist without them, but they're not part of .NET.

What, then constitutes .NET?

+1 Rep, jwenting.

-2 Rep lotrgandalf. Why are you talking about repping?

on some forums it's I think standard practice to tell when you've added or subtracted reputation.
