If you don't try you wouldn't learn. That is basic principle of learning anything. Since you learning it is fine if you fail and it is expected of you. so go on, do some coding and post it back...

I believe that LOOPS can be very good for learning the programming. You should try to write algos for such programs (on paper with pencil) and then try to write equivalent program in C/C++. Once again, such programs will boost you programming ability IFF you try such problems.
