I've been learning more about off-page SEO and experimenting with different strategies to improve organic visibility. There are many approaches, including forum participation, business listings, social bookmarking, profile creation, guest articles, and content marketing.

For those who have seen positive results recently, which off-page SEO techniques have been the most effective? Have you noticed any strategies that have become less effective over time? I'd appreciate hearing about real-world experiences, best practices, and any lessons you've learned while building long-term organic traffic.

The problem as I see it is that something over 50% is A.I. generated now so you are being buried in AI SLOP.

If you are serious about something then get on Substack, make good stuff and get folk to buy your subscription.

In my recent experience, a mix of tool/SaaS directories, niche-relevant forum participation, and well-vetted guest posts has given the most consistent results - much more than mass directory submissions used to a few years ago. One thing that's made a big difference is checking spam score/DA before committing to any guest post or directory (I generally skip anything above 8%), since low-quality placements can do more harm than good. I've also found that natural link velocity matters more than volume - spacing out 3-5 links a week feels far safer than a burst of links in a short period. What's become less effective, in my experience, is generic blog commenting and low-effort social bookmarking - engagement and relevance seem to matter a lot more now than raw link count.

Posting guest posts on relevant and genuine websites (and not spammy ones) has yielded the best results for me in 2026. Digital PR in the form of mentions in local media or industry roundups has made a difference too. I have received great traction from answering questions on Quora/Reddit without any links dropped and from citation building on niche directories related to education and skills courses. It was interesting to observe that brand mentions without backlinks seemed to boost visibility in AI-generated results.
