Over the past few years, I've switched from a super-powerful Dell workstation tower to a Macbook Pro hooked up to my dual 4K displays and mechanical keyboard. I just about never use my laptop undocked.
How about you guys? Still use a desktop if you don't plan on leaving your desk? Are laptops only for when you might need to be portable?

I gave up my desktop in the early 2000s. I had a desktop at the office as well as a Thinkpad. The grreat thing about the Thinkpad was that I could swap out the hard drive without opening the case, so before going home at night I'd swap out the drive and put in the one tailored for home use. I've had only laptops ever since. It was pretty much necessary as lugging a desktop back and forth for camp was impractical. I've never needed more power than I could get from a laptop (I'm not a power gamer).
I know it was probably an accidental typo, but my exhausted brain read "The grreat thing about the Thinkpad ..." in the voice of Tony the Tiger.
I think nowadays even power gamers can get away with laptops, no?
I just noticed that. Pretty funny considering I just replied in another thread that I can't roll my rrrrrs.
My younger son used to have a gaming laptop (Alienware) but when it died he replaced it with a custom desktop.
desktop is not suitable for people who like to travel (like me). my choice is obvious
I almost never travel any more and I still stick with a laptop. I can go from room to room or outside in the hammock. If I need a bigger screen I just HDMI to a huge monitor.
