Page Cannot Be Displayed Error

**just fyi, I moved this thread from the IE forum to over here**

I am having a very hard time trying to figure out an answer to my problem, so maybe someone can help. Whenever I try to access certain sites with Internet Explorer 6.0 (I think they may be called secure sites), I get the error message "Page Cannot Be Displayed". Its extremely frustrating because I need to use those sites to get to online accounts for banking and such and to do so, I have to go to a different computer to use those sites. I never had to do it before...
Now, I have changed the security settings to various things to get try to get it to work. I have checked the SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, & TLS 1.0 boxes in Advanced Setting in Internet Options. I have downloaded the service packs. I have run Ad-Aware and various other programs (although, I dont know what good that does). So. Can anyone help me configure this damn browser to let me see secure sites????? Thanks.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

Reboot normally.

This last part was a bit confusing. I downloaded that program, but it didnt find anything to remove. I also don't know where to find the Active Tasks or the Startup Programs menu. Furthermore, I searched for dnxf.exe, ddmb.exe, and msbb.exe and couldnt find them (I didnt really think I would but i tried anyway). Well, I still cant open secure sites, so now what the heck do I do? Please advise & thank you for responding to my first post.

Try this. Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.
Other than that, I am unsure as to the reason you cannot get to where you want to go. :(.

i have been trying to figure out for ages why i keep getting page cannot be displayed error every time i try to open IE. Today i solved it thank goodness - i ran spybot, deleted all temp files and ran the kaazaabegone file - suddenly everything was fixed
i think the kazaa thing really stuffed my puter up and when i ran the begone program everything returned to normal.

...Hmmm, where can I find this kaazaabegone? It might help although...I can open IE and it will display normal pages, it's just when I try to open secure pages, it gives me that error.

But if you've never had Kazaa installed on your computer you shouldn't need it.

Have you checked the settings in your firewall?

You could also try another browser, like Firefox, and see if that will allow you to get to those sites.

I have had it on there in the past, but I recently had to reformat my hard drive, so i guess i dont need it anymore. but yeah, I have downloaded netscape and it lets me go to those sites. its kinda annoying tho, bc i have to switch back and forth between browsers. oh well. thanks for your help! ;)
