Hello folks, I wonder if anyone could help me out.
I've been having problems getting rid of a rather nasty trojan lately, which seems to be called ISTbar.
I've used Spyware Doctor, Ad-aware, Webroot's Spy Sweeper and Trend Micro's online virus scan. They seemed to do the trick, and deleted it. But a few days later it came back.

I resorted to using Hijack This, and immediately spotted (and deleted) one obvious entry - xxxtoolbar.com was in my trusted internet zone.

I'm hoping i'm clean now, but I thought i'd post this Hijack This log because I don't really know what the rest of the things I found are, and it's obviously not a good idea to go deleting stuff willy-nilly without knowing what damage i'm doing.

I'd appreciate it if anyone can cast a critical eye over this log and let me know if there's anything else nasty that needs deleting.

Cheers!

Thykos

Hello again,

Thanks for taking the time to look through all those entries. It turned out that I still had the istbar problem right enough. After several more spyware scans, I deleted the entries you suggested, and now my Hijack This log looks something like this:

Is it clean now?

Thanks,

Thykos

If you're using a Toshiba laptop (and it looks like you are), you should keep those entries. Check this link for info:
http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/detail.php?id=22

Toshiba sure adds a lot of processes

Thykos, close all windows, scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries:
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/28bbcaa...ip/RdxIE601.cab

I don't know if that will solve you're problem, but that's all I see. Maybe one of the pro's will spot something I missed.

Where does Spyware Doctor say the problem is? If it's in a restore folder, check this thread:
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread13362.html

Please go here and have this file scanned.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\server[1].exe

Thanks to both dlh6213 and Crunchie for your help and input.
I've now restored the Toshiba hotkey files, and deleted the 3 that dlh suggested.

I also scanned that file as you suggested, Crunchie. You were spot on, here was the result:
server[1].exe - infected by TrojanDownloader.Win32.Small.wg

Is it safe for me to just delete this file? Or is it necessary for my system to work?

Thanks again,

Thykos

Go ahead and delete that file. You may have to *fix* it first with hijackthis, reboot, then delete it.

Thanks to dlh6213 for pointing out that the first set of files I deleted were part of Toshiba's system, and especially to Crunchie for figuring out the infected file to delete.

The file's gone now, and seem to be clean. Thanks for all your help, folks!

Thykos

You're welcome :). Marking this as solved. Anyone else with the same problem, please start your own thread. Thank you.
