I downloaded a file that contained a virus. The virus turned my desktop red with a biohazard logo in the middle reading ""Your Privacy is in Danger". The Virus added "Virus Alert!!" to my clock area and changed it to military time. I am unable to access my C drive only in safe mode. After researching online the virus held some of the characteristics of "SmitFraud". I downloaded and ran SmitFraudFix as recommended. This erased the red background for good however did nothing to the virus alert!!, military time, or missing c drive and denied access to task manager. After more searching online I found similar viruses that were solved using HijackThis. I attempted to follow instructions however my log is different and i do not know what files to delete. If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciate it and I apologize if this thread has already been answered.

Thanks!

Crunchie, is Lonny's Fixwareout toast, now?
Could not find it over at bleeping crowd.

Ah, thank you, Crunchie.. it was late, and when it was not at that first site I checked, I searched for fixwareout, and was lazy.... Amazing the difference a space makes. Fix Wareout finds it.

No problem :)

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: jzofac.dll

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

Search for...

jzofac.dll

...using "Start | Search...".

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

Are you able to boot into normal mode yet?

I couldnt find anything in hostsXpert that said "Restore Original Hosts", There is a button that says "Backup/Restore" under file handling.

I thought I replied to your last post but it isn't showing. I downloaded HostsXpert but I couldn't find "Restore original hosts".

In the latest version that button is Restore M$ Hosts File.

Thanks Gerbil. I Restored the Ms Host file and deleted O20 - AppInit_DLLs: jzofac.dll through HijackThis. My computer is still showing VIRUS ALERT!! in the taskbar along with military time and I still have no access to my C drive in normal mode. Here is the Log. I really appreciate all the help.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

I think you got it! I now have my C drive back and the Virus ALERT!! is gone, the only thing i noticed was the military time stayed but I was able to manually change it back. Also when I opened NOD32 it said that one of the threats had not been deleted. I cant thank you enough you have been incredibly helpful.
