Search Engine Virus on my Comp

I have a problem. Somewhere a long the line I picked up a virus or spyware. It takes affect both in IE and Firefox (my default). Whenever I use a search engine I type in a topic. When I hit search
that topic I typed in appears over and over again in the search titles of the searches but when I look at the links underneath the highlighted titles they are all advertisement Url's and guess what when you click on them they go to the irrelevant url advetisement. Kind of annoying because you can never find a site unless you know the exact address. Anyway, I found a relevant topic on your forums here www.daniweb.com/forums/thread44977.html and I followed the instructions that were given to the person with a similar problem as I (I dled hijackthis and saved a log). Oh and I ran avg and it didn't fix the problem. Help would be GREATLY appreciated!

That is related to the Acronis Backup Utility. Nothing wrong with it at all.
The post you cited is 2 1/2 years old and closed so let's forget that one ok?

First thing though, you are running two anti-virus programs on the computer, that is an absolute NO-NO. Is your Norton program current and up to date, not expired? If it is NOT expired then go to Add/Remove and Uninstall AVG 8. You should never run two on one computer. If the Norton IS expired then go to Add/Remove and Uninstall everything there named Norton AND Symantec. Either way, one has to go before we can do much clean up.

Next open your Spybot program. Go to the top and click Mode and choose Advanced mode. Once that opens go down to the bottom and click Tools. On the left side a set of buttons will appear. Choose the second one down which is Resident. When Resident opens take the check mark OUT of TeaTimer. Click ok and close the program.

Next go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools. When that opens click Services. When Services opens look for this entry, they are in alphabetical order:
Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service (aawservice). Double Click on that. A box will open. At the bottom you will see a Stop button. Click this to Stop the service. Once it is stopped then go to the middle of the box where it says Start up type. You should see a small window that says Automatic. Click the little arrow on the right side and there will be a drop down menu. Choose Disabled. Ok your way out and close out services.

Reboot the computer.

Update your Spybot program. Run a scan with it and have it fix/quarantine all critical items found.

Next do the followng:
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

Reboot the computer.

When the computer reboots run a new scan with HiJackThis. Save the log.
Post back here with the MBA-M log and the HiJackThis log.

Hey! I have the same problem - thank god when i googled and found this the thread was only 3 days old :) Whenever i click a link i found on google or yahoo, i am linked to several completely different websites till it ends at a random website, perhaps another random unknown search engine or recently a perfume website :S The first website it redirects me to is www.-find-www.net, or something similar. Anyway - im taking the steps also, and im so far scanning with Spybot but ill keep posting. :D

You need to begin your OWN thread rather than posting in this one. Just Click the New Thread button, title the thread with something that will give all an idea of your problems and then put all your info and log info there.
