I have been trying to get rid of these Hijacks for a month and no luck. I have download and run AD-aware, spybot, Antivirus programs, but I'm not sure I am using them properly. I have Hjackthis, but I cannot save it into Notepad. Every time I try to open notepad, my internet connection pops up????.

Please help! this is getting very frustrating

Hi. Download HijackThis from here & it will install into it's own, permanent folder.
If you have anything disabled in MsConfig, please re-enable it/them.
Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop giving you the option of where to save it. Save to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

What operating system are you using? Here are the instructions for Adaware and Spybot;

1. Download and install Ad-Aware SE, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan

2.Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE

3. Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.

4. Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window

1) In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
*Automatically save log-file
*Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
*Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

Under Definitions:
*Prompt to udate outdated definitions - set the number of days

2) Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green :

Under Driver, Folders & Files:
*Scan Within Archives

Under Select drives & folders to scan -
*choose all hard drives

Under Memory & Registry: all green
*Scan Active Processes
*Scan Registry
*Deep Scan Registry
*Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
*Scan my Hosts file

3) Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:

Under Shell Integration:
*Move deleted files to recycle bin

Under Logfile Detail Level: (all green)
*include addtional object information
*DESELECT - include negligible objects information
*include environment information

Under Alternate Data Streams:
*Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
*Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

4) Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:

Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
*Unload recognized processes during scanning
*Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
*Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Under the Log Files:
*Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile

5. Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.

6. Click ‘Start’

*Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

7. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

8. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window

9. Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘finish’

10. REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found

Download & instal Spybot S&D 1.3 from here. Update it before scanning.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. This program will prevent the install of bad activex controls that it has knowledge of. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it. Reboot

I am running Windows XP home edition.
How do I re-enable any items in my MSconfig?

Start\Run and type Msconfig then go to the startup Tab and enable all. Reboot. If they are already enabled it's ok.

Ok I hae run Hijackthis, adaware and spybot. Spybot couldn't delete a fwe things even after a reboot.

Elitium bar, Coolwebsearch nad DSO exploit were what showed up.

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here and navigate to and delete the following if found:

C:\WINDOWS\inet10054<----folder

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msa.exe<----file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll<----file

Reboot normally after doing the above, rescan with hijackthis, then post that log here please.

Download, install and keep updated, Spywareblaster from www.javacoolsoftware.com to help keep your system clean.

You also need to go to Windows Update to get the Critical Updates for your system to help prevent this type of thing. Hold off on SP2, however, at least until your system gets cleaned up.

Ok I unloaded all instances of the Msa.exe program I could only find one.

When I fixed the checked items wiht Hijackthis, I received an error message on the following item:

O21 - SSODL: SystemCheck2 - {54645654-2225-4455-44A1-9F4543D34545} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll

I rebooted into safe mode and deleted the folder and files listed in the reply.
I could not find the MSA.exe file.

I rebooted normally and the Inet10054 file was still there????

Here is my new Hijacklog:

Almost forgot....

When I did my scna befreo I fixed the checked items this item was not in the scan:

O2 - BHO: HBO Class - {5321E378-FFAD-4999-8C62-03CA8155F0B3} - C:\WINDOWS\inet10054\1.02.11.dll

It looked similar to this:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5321E378-FFAD-4999-8C62-03CA8155F0B3} - (no file)

Pocket killbox.
Download the Pocket KillBox
Unzip the file to your desktop.
Run Pocket Killbox and paste the full file path of the below file in the box and click on Standard File Kill and End Explorer Shell While Killing File. Click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle after you enter the file.

C:\WINDOWS\inet10054\services.exe

Reboot afterwards if the file is successfully deleted.

If the file is not deleted, do not reboot yet. Run Pocket Killbox again and paste the full file path in the box and click on Delete on Reboot. Next click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle. You will get a message saying "File with be deleted on next reboot, Process and Reboot now?" Click "Yes" to reboot.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inet10054\services.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inet10054\services.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xp_system] C:\WINDOWS\inet10054\services.exe

Reboot again and post another log.

OK, I have been on a little extended holiday and have been able to get this worked out with my computer. So here we go.

I downloaded Pocket Kilbox and tried delting the link below:

C:\WINDOWS\inet10054\services.exe

The first itme it sadi the file did not exist. May have typed the name wrong.
Second time it said file was deleted sucessfully. Then my computer shut down automatically (60 second warning).

I didi my scan with hijackthis and fixed teh following lines:

That log file looks ok now. When are you going to get service pack 1a for XP and IE6? You really need to do it now.

So will this keep my computer form dialing the UK??

Also why does that file keep coming back?

Can I use SP2 instead of Sp1a?

I checked IE and it is version 6.0. I am trying out Mozilla Firefox right now and likethe look and feel.

I should probably put this in a new post but why does it prompt about the web page "conyc.com"?

Thanks for all of your help,
Viking

So will this keep my computer form dialing the UK??

Is it still doing so?

Also why does that file keep coming back?

Something we cannot see may be doing it, or it's because you do not have the service packs installed.

Can I use SP2 instead of Sp1a?

Only if your PC is clean.

I checked IE and it is version 6.0. I am trying out Mozilla Firefox right now and likethe look and feel.

A better alternative to IE definitely.

I should probably put this in a new post but why does it prompt about the web page "conyc.com"?

Try the removal instructions here; http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.conycspa@mm.html

Wow hope this post is still open?

My computer is no longer dialing the UK or any other foreign country.

How can I tell when my PC is clean

Is that the only way I can get rid of the CONYC.COM. My version of symnatic was bogas. I switched to AVG and added a Zone alarm Firewall.

Thanks for all of you your help with this, I feel I am very close to having my computer back to normal.

VIKING

Did you do your Windows updates yet? If you download the latest version of hijackthis and install it to a permanent folder, we will have another look over it for you, if you wish :).
