Whatever this is that is playing havoc on my pc is driving me crazy. I have done numerous scans of all sorts, of course turning my restore off, but it won't go away. I know it's back when my computer starts freezing, won't shut down properly, the browser gets very slow, etc.

Please help me--McAffee has no idea either. :cry:

Hi Maurine, welcome to DaniWeb :D

For every User listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (not the folders themselves):

Local Settings\Temp
Cookies
History
Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Temp folder (if you have one).

Do a search for *.tmp and delete all entries found.

(Note: if any of these temporary files cannot be deleted while in ‘normal mode,’ try Safe Mode.

Update McAfee and run a full system scan.

Run a at least two of these free online anti-virus/anti-spyware scans and have them clean what they can:

Install it, and while installing, under Additional Options, uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
From the main Ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, and then click the Start update button. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display Update successful), close the program (don't scan yet). If you have problems updating see here:

Note -- When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get the warning Database could not be found!, click OK when you do.

Reboot into Safe Mode and run Ewido (note: you will be posting the log from this scan when back in normal mode).

Reboot normally.

You need to move Hijackthis from the Temp folder it is in now to it's own permanent folder, like c:\HJT\hijackthis.exe.

After you've moved hijackthis, close any open browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log along with the Ewido log.

I did everything that you suggested up to the ability to do so. A few of your suggestions are for XP users...mine is ME. Anyway, I did scan with Kaspersky, housecall and ravantivirus up until my system crashed. I did get a full scan with ravantavirus however...this is the report from them:

That is what I plan on doing...I have however a TON of files that I have to keep for a non-profit org....I have bought a new computer that I plan to transfer all of my files to. After messing with it all day today, I did install the xp, installed the XP Microsoft spyware program and it found a few that weren't detected before. I also re-downloaded my McAfee as it wasn't programmed for XP and it also found 2 more of the PUP Redirected Hosts programs.

Now I will transfer all of my files over to the new one, format this one and put it in the basement for the kids to play on :0)

I do thank you for the suggestions, that did help I believe...not sure what was going on with this computer but I can't wait to get my new one up and running!
