In my mac. My root file is harddisk and a user account with name james.
Every time i logged into terminal i found james as root folder. I cannot go to main root folder hard disk in terminal where all system files located.
So it would be great ....can any one tell me how to reach to root file
You will need to escalate your privileges to 'root', which can be done using the following command via terminal:
# sudo su -
<type in your user password>
You can then use "cd /" to reach the root filesystem.

Thanks for that! This info is correct as I have tried it, and is very handy as any Mac OS after 10.1 is user centric, and so is the terminal.
Root is not a file, but access level for a user. Root is sometimes referred to as superuser. It allows any and all access to your system. You can easily destroy your OS so be very very careful because in Unix, there is no back button.
