Hi everyone!
Looking for a normal smart speaker for the living room - first of all, to sound great music. Most importantly deep bass, clear midrange and unclipped top end. Voice “smarts” - assistant, timer or weather forecast - are a nice addition, but not a priority.

I tried the popular Echo and Google Nest: they are good for background, but if you listen seriously, the sound seems either flat or scattered.

Is there anything on the market with much better sound quality but with smart features? Budget can be flexible if the speaker is really worth its money. I'm not tied to any ecosystem - recommend a model that actually “sounds” for music.

For over a decade such discussion invariably gravitate to the audio encoding which is usually highly compressed which loses most of the qualities you are asking for.

Maybe an old school mini console CD player would be best so you can at least get CD-AUDIO quality which as you can guess has been panned by vinyl folk.

Over and over I've heard such discussions and it's not just the speaker. It's the source material too.
