Highly likely its a failing graphics card!
Why do you need two routers for the one LAN?
Ditch the ISP supplied modem and utilize the linksys with the inbuilt modem configured with your ISP server access details.
Modem addy should be 10.0.0 etc
this computer still takes 47 seconds to completely load up.
This aint to bad really.....dont focus solely on boot times only though.
Has the systems multitasking capabilities improved somewhat?
How long do individual programs take to load when you have several already running?
Simply adding extra RAM aint gonna give you dual core extreme performance with a 1333mhz FSB and a lightning boot from an older system.
Dont expect miracles!
Not only should you check whats loading at startup but also what's running in the background.....Make sure your boot sequence is set to 'normal' and run through these computer maintenance steps:

If it were my new computer addition to the LAN family then i would most certainly format and clean install the OS for optimum results. (Its all about the registry and you need to give it a clean start in order to analyse hard ware addition performance increases)
If you've purchased someone else's computer you can never be sure of whats been done with it in the past and how much the old OS install is holding things back.
Let us know how you go and what you decide on!

The use of a suitable networking protocol is what you need to look into to achieve this outcome.
I would suggest a protocol by which a
node could learn a MAC address without the need to use broadcast or
multicast initially?
Although the network protocol determines how address discovery works, Im not entirely sure how you would set this up using a cisco catalyst 3560G.
Its not about what sort of chip you have, any processor is capable of processing commands given.
Its probably more to do with software compatibility such as the version of OS your running and other third party software installations that differ between the two systems.
You will need to give us more info in this area!
Just taking an opportunity to get my 2 cents back at those 'MS bashing' Mac Freaks!
Its not that Mac's are bad at all.......
Its all down to personal choice and what you wish to achieve from your computer system.
For me, I just like functionality and compatibility coupled with a greater freedom of hardware/software and networking choices.
The truth hits hard.......Windows is king and I cant wipe the Vista smile from my dial.
woooot!
By all means......Hehe!
Im guessing you mean the Hard drive when you say seagate????
If its making unusual sounds that seem out of the normal to you, this usually means that its about to go south for the winter. (Mechanical failure)
Back up any important data that you have on it while your still able, and then you can ride it into the dirt......
This looks like a subnet route.
Maybe you should ask the customer for an ipconfig/all from the host to establish the actual clients addresses to be forwarded from the network.
Vista rocks! I haven't touched my Macbook in about three weeks; will probably end up selling it. Not that there's anything wrong with it; in fact I like it a lot. But no sense in having a $1200 paperweight laying around...
LMAO!.......Touche!
I converted my Macbook to a sandwich toaster!
Works great cause it always runs so hot.....great for fryin eggs too!

Software app conflict or Malware issue id say!
Network sharing centre options just dont disappear and reappear with random boots.

Not sure if you have tried yet, but maybe one of these hacks will help?

Not advisable for use on the network these days for critical security purposes, and not sure why you would want to do this, but here you go:
No probs........Nice work Jayne!
Without knowing your version of bios for the mobo its hard to pin down the POST error beep codes, however its most likely a video error that has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information.
If its an Award Bios, a video problem beep code consists of a single long beep followed by two short beeps. Any other beeps are probably a RAM (Random Access Memory) problems.
Have you had the system working with the 1gig RAM module in place?
Can only be either Faulty or incompatible, badly/wrongly seated vid card or imcompatible/faulty RAM module.
Are you able to test these pieces of Hardware in another system?
This is surprising using roaming profiles however in my experience it's either a DNS issue or redirected folders that contain large files that are being copied across a slow network connection.
More likely a possible DNS prob however.
Im not to sure here, but sometimes this condition is caused by using your ISP's DNS
addresses in your DCs' and clients' IP properties.
You should only use your internal DNS.
If you like you could post me "ipconfig /all" outputs for an affected workstation and all your domain controllers.
Maybe this article can help also:

Ok - i have sorted that out - but i have two questions -
My client logons take between 10-15 minutes as they get stuck on this applying personal settings box - any ideas on how to fix this??
Are you using roaming or local profiles?
and the other thing is when i create Group Policy to remove say the control panel from the start menu it affects the server admin as well, any ideas on how to sort that out as well??
Again thank you in advance and i look forward to any replys.

The best way to accomplish this is by placing the accounts in an organizational unit, and then applying a group policy at that organizational unit level.
Hehe, i think Dima might be a bit tired tonight so i will try and explain what i know you probably wont understand.....Basically, I guess a Network can be defined as 2 or more computer systems linked together sharing resources!
The goal of networking is to make a resource shared by a remote system, act as a resource on a local system.
For your reading:
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/n/network.html
network (ntwƻrk)
A system of computers and peripherals, such as printers, that are linked together. A network can consist of as few as two computers connected with cables or millions of computers that are spread over a large geographical area and are connected by telephone lines, fiberoptic cables, or radio waves. The Internet is an example of very large network.
Go into the routers configuration settings and make sure that DHCP is enabled.
The router is your DHCP server and will issue IP addy's for all computers hooked to your LAN dynamically.
http://www.associatedcontent.com/video/16406/how_to_access_router_configuration.html?cat=15
This is tougher than if XP were installed first on the primary partition c:/ followed by the vista install on another logical partition.
Not sure if this will help:
Hi Jayne.
Looks as though your new laptops network adaptor sees the wireless router downstairs as your network lists as available.
You need to make sure that the laptops settings are identical to those of the router.
Ensure that network sharing is enabled on the laptop within XP and that you have the same 'workgroup' name set as the router and PC downstairs.
If you have secured your WLAN (which i hope you have) then obviously the Encryption key needs to be identical and you will also need to list your laptops MAC address in the routers filter table if you have MAC filtering enabled on the router.
To set or change workgroup names in Windows XP, right-click on My Computer or open the System icon in Control Panel, then choose the Computer Name tab and finally, click the 'Change' button to access the workgroup name fields.
Here is a great tutorial on setting up your home wireless network correctly.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wireless.mspx
Its very important that you secure your wireless network as you state that you can see 2, sometimes 3 other networks close by and if you can see them, they can see you (unless you have broadcast disabled on the router) and if your not secured, they can hook to your network and use your internet bandwidth and most probably share resources which means access to your computers on the network.
Securing a wireless network:
This is the BIOS boot order for computer nodes. ie This is a machine that supports network booting (also called PXE).
This means on bare hardware the first boot will network boot as no OS is installed on the hard disk.
You sure this is your computer?
Maybe im wrong, but can you explain in more detail what is going on here in terms of network arrangements with your PC?
Regards
Bandwidth might be an issue, but the truth of the matter is I was able to update Windows XP through the automatic upate feature. I was able to go to youtube.com and download a video of a Laproscopic surgery proceedure for gall bladder removal. Total size I believe was 18 megabytes. I was also able to view some friends of mine playing the didgerdioo. Each one of those "videos" takes up a WHOLE lot more bandwidth than going to www.cabelas.com
The point im making is that when you use a network owned by someone else, you enter into an agreement to be bound by the rules that they set which includes accessing only what they let you access!
Cabela's is a firm that sells a lot of other things like camping gear, boots, shirts, fishing rods and reels, lures, binoculars, etc. Guns are not their main focus.
I realize this, but the fact that data pertaining to weapons of anysort is available here rules it out under the guidelines that need to be set.....Im sure you would agree with this point?
The gun laws have changed drastically. You could not, even with a gold card, browse to some site that did sell guns and purchase an AK47 over the internet. State and Federal regulations regarding guns require that guns only be sold by Federal Firearms License dealers. Many times state and even county regulations require further documentation and the filling out AND signing of ā¦
@jack2304....please start a new thread for issues unrelated to the current topic!
This thread belongs to c_slater_1.
You guys just dont get it do you?
Its not about the legality of the site your trying to access at all....its about the regulations set by the administrator of the networks bandwidth your accessing for free.
If you dont like it, pay for your own bandwidth and bring your own modem.
You say a simple sporting goods website....what, that sells guns!
Even though your intentions maybe above board, if you were the hospitals Network Administrator would you want patients from the phsyco ward ordering AK47's on their gold cards?
Nothing pisses me off more than ignorance..If your 55 you should no better.
At least i expect this sort of attitude from school kids trying to access My Space on the schools network.
Geeesh...
You will need to install the drivers again after the format.....get em off the disc that came with the card or at the card manufacturers website!
Have a look in Device manager under 'Network adaptors'...it will tell you what sort of card it is, and theres most probably a red cross or yellow exclamation mark next to it!
Try clicking install driver and see if windows will find it for you!
Excellent.....glad it helped!
Apparently the LUAFV driver, which controls UAC in Vista, can cause latency issues if the feature is disabled.
Once UAC is disabled, a registry tweak that disables the driver in question needs to be applied if the user wants to have more solid boot times back (improved boot times obviously vary from machine to machine and i didnt notice a huge difference to be honest).
I hold no responsibility if this tweak should cause your computer to spontaneously combust or eat your children.
Open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesluafv"
Double click the "start" string value, and set it to 4.
Reboot and see if you notice an improvement.
I'm running Vista Home Premium for about a year and have some mixed feelings. I hated it before disabling some of the new security features because it asked too many questions. Now I have only two problems:
1) won't run a couple of the programs I had on XP, so I duel boot to XP and run them.2) The screen saver frequently locks up when I move the mouse and takes a minute or so to disappear so that I can use the computer again.
I agree, User Account Control can be very annoying at first!
mmm....no make that always.
At least MS did something right and gave us the option to disable it, although this does seem to increase the boot time as the OS sorts through the registry for directions.
There is a reg fix for this however, and i know i have it lying around somewhere.....I'll take a look and get back to you on this.
I used to dual boot with XP as well for a bit in the early days, but as the third party developers came on board with vista compat. soft apps and drivers, i found that eventually i didnt really need to, and what i still couldnt run on Vista wasnt that important to me anyway.
What's not important for some however, is essential to others for their digital enjoyment.....so as with everything, its what works best for you that matters!

Wow locksmith that DOES look good! Shouldn't have put IMG tags aroung the link tho, took me a few more seconds to view the link than normal :-p.
What's ur rig if you don't mind me asking, processor, GFx Card, RAM?
And I can't help but notice how similar ur taskbar layout is to a Mac OS X's. Is that accidental? :)
Ooops...my apologies!
Would you believe i run Ultimate on an AMD Athlon64 3000+ O/C'ed @ 2.4ghz / 2gig of DDR400 (PC3200) and a crappy old ATI Radeon 9250 128mb card stuffed in the AGP slot.
My only regret is that the card wont run Aero!....bummer!
I not that into the latest gaming options, but i look after the housekeeping, keep things lean and mean, and it runs beautiful.
I prefer to use the Quicklaunch bar rather than have my shortcuts all over the desktop thats all......Proof that Mac's dont have a monopoly on eye candy.

I was hesitant to add to this thread fearing just another XP V's Vista fruitless argument.
Having been involved with Vista since beta 1 testing (nearly 3 years), i am pleased to see that many are realizing that any Operating System worth its salt needs time to mark its place within the industry.
Sure, we had many teething problems in the early days, but i believe that this OS has developed into a truely genuine article.
Does anyone out there remember the what happened with the intro of XP? or even 2k for that matter?
Sound familiar?
Here's a shot of my version of Ultimate x64 desktop eye candy.....whats inside is sooo good i have forgotten where i put my XP disc.

No probs my friend......please let me know how things develop for you.
Format and clean install Windows dude......I know I sound like an ISP tech support guy, but this is often the best way to achieve results as a last resort, and i think we need to pull our 'last resort' into play, do you?
Some info on assigning a static IP in case your wondering:
http://www.hotcomm.com/FAQ/FAQ_staticIPXP.asp
Good Luck with the format.....ahhh, nothing like the smell of burning drive clusters in the morning. Lol
Im assuming that your going to be using a Web Host to .... then here are some general guidelines dependant on how many students you plan on allowing access for ofcourse:
"Text" documents take up very little space. You could place hundreds of pages of text on a 1 Mb web site.
Since you're going to fill your site with images, your space may be exhausted more quickly (images typically vary from a few kilobytes (Kb) to tens of Megabytes (Mb).
Naturally, Music (audio) files are much larger and video files are the largest of all. So if your site consists mostly of text, images and maybe an Access database, you can get by with probably a few hundred megabytes to a couple of gigs depending on your client database.
For future expansion plans, most Web Hosts charge about 10 cents per MB per month!

I have a Gateway W340UI with Vista.
Anyway - for some reason, I went to start it up, and got nothing.
'For some reason' could be anything from a fall off the cars dashboard (taking a heavy knock)....to.....downloading and running 'Debbie does Dallas' complete with infection.
Can you think back to what may have happened for this to occurr?
Any clues you can give us will help with a possible diagnosis for either a hardware or software related issue.
In the meantime here is your notebooks manual in PDF format: http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=3&url=http%3A%2F%2Fassets.gateway.com%2Fs%2FManuals%2FMobile%2F8512150.pdf&ei=aBKQSK68CoOspwSQ9NX4Bw&usg=AFQjCNGVFStZiQwtDWe-5qHf4CfX_NCKMw&sig2=EaCs6eXSrDlpIbgsMWqxYA
Its got me buggered...If you have tried to reinstall the drivers, have tried to remove the winsock & winsock2 from the registry and reinstalled the tcp/ip protocol using the
nettcpip.ini file.
Downloaded the winsock fix and all to no result then the only other thing i can think of would be the possibility that your network card or cable may be
bad?
It cant be anything else that i know of???
You could try assigning a static IP i guess as the issue seems to be related to DHCP.
Maybe a format and clean install of the OS to ensure that the malware you had has not corrupted anything, although your logfile looks ok to me this doesnt mean that something might be amiss.
Sorry dude.....these above suggestions are all i have.
You have been offered several scenerio's to try however you have not told us of any tested outcomes??
Chipset
IntelĀ® 865GV Chipset
Memory
Two 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMM sockets
Support for DDR 400, DDR 333, and DDR 266
Support for up to 2 GB of system memory
Even though you have increased capacity, you have gone down in clock speeds with the new 512mb sticks.
The 256mb sticks were DDR400 PC3200
The 512mb sticks are DDR333 PC2700
Despite this, your motherboard and chipset accepts both versions so compatibility shouldnt be an issue here!
You could test that something else is causing the problems by replacing the old RAM back for a temporary period and see if the issue arises again.
Memory testing: before you swap / Test the 512 mb sticks using
LMAO!
You'll be doing a favour for whoever owns it.
I Have your back Bro!
Nah.....this just means that your computers IP addy is assigned dynamically by DHCP.
If connection is established, but IE wont display the web page, its an issue with the embedded browser itself or a windows setting somewhere thats most likely been altered by the Malware you once had.
Because IE is embedded with all windows OS's, its not possible to uninstall and reinstall the app as it stands without rebuilding the great wall of china.....This is why i ask that we can test this theory by using a 'third party' browser such as firefox etc.
Geesh....your really makin me work here Tumbleweedracef!
Haven't used XP or IE7 for a few years now.
Vista Rocks in 64 bit and have been using mostly x86 since beta 1 testing for MS.
I love FF3 at the moment cause IE8 beta kept crashing during testing for the first version.
I'll have a look around my sons XP machine and get back to you!
Get permission for a browser install if you can.
Wooot! Great News.....At least we have a connection now!
What exactly do you mean by 'It didnt work'?
When you open your browser (IE7) do you get an error message, and does the same thing occur with another browser......try firefox 3 and see what happens.
Download: http://www.geekpolice.net/freeware-downloads-f14/firefox-3-t2063.htm
OK.....after running everest, just cut and paste the info about your motherboard and RAM specifications into your next post and I will hopefully be able to tell you if its a compatibility issue that is causing your problems!
If the RAMS compatible(which it should be if the system worked for a while) then the issue must lie elsewhere so we will investigate some other area's.
The more info we have, the better armed we are to go into combat, thats all!
Regards
A 256 added with a 512 will still give you a total capacity of 768mb of RAM, however if the sticks are of different frequency, then overall speed of the combined RAM will be only as fast as the slowest frequency stick.
The main reason why some users dont like to mix and match RAM capacities and Frequencies is because of Compatibility issues.
Some Motherboards can be very 'picky' about what RAM is installed and many dont even like different manufacturer mixes.
Every Motherboard on every system is different and unique in its own way so what has worked for some, may not work for others and visa versa.
I have had systems that wont even POST after new RAM has been added of a different brand but same capacity and frequency.....and when i shutdown and changed DIMM slots, it booted up.....go figure?
Its a strange business we deal in with computers...hehe!
Regards
It's about a 5-7% increase in performance when you have two RAM modules of the same size and same frequency (MHz) as apposed to alternating sizes.
It's nice to have, but not something you're likely to miss - processor, video card, or hard drive is almost always the bottleneck.
If, for example, you were debating whether to get 2x1 GB or 2 GB (one stick) in any system, for the same price, I'd advise the 2 GB x 1 for the ability to run in dual channel cofiguration which will greatly enhance performance. These separate channels allow each memory module access to the memory controller, increasing throughput bandwidth.
Dont forget though that the major downfall of different RAM speeds in modules configured on the one motherboard is that your total RAM speed will only be as fast as your slowest module.
Yeah, shutdown, remove the Linksys NC100 fast ethernet adaptor and reboot.
We will use the Intel pro 100 ve for attempted connection.
Go to the control panel again - network connections.
Disable all the local area connections you dont need (there are too many icons in your system tray as it looks like you have run through the connection wizard a few times) just keeping one.
Open properties for that Local Area Connection
Select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and select properties
make sure that "obtain IP address automatically" (as you said) and "obtain DNS server address automatically" are checked, and click OK.
Go back to device manager and right click the Intel adaptor and select properties and confirm the device is working correctly.
Right click again and Disable the device and then re-enable.
Also, unplug the power to the cable modem and let it sit for a few seconds and re-power it.
Wait about 2 minutes before trying to connect after that.
If this dont help then unplug all power sources to the puter, remove keyboard / monitor cables etc, open nearest window and dispose of unit with 2 hands (only kidding dude.....not. lol).
See how ya go with the above~!
