What have you done to try to correct this? Run scans for infections, defrag the hdd? How much RAM do you have and how much free space do you have on your hdd? It is always helpful to include the make and model of your computer, or the make and …

You have two problems going into replacing your motherboard, first is the possibility that you have infections on the hdd, and second is that you are going to have a potential big problem installing the new motherboard with the old hdd. If you have infections they will be on the …

If you know what the make and model or your computer you can always look up the specs. It may not mention the manufacturer but should list the output. The other option is to open the case and look and see what is printed on you PSU.

Without knowing what the error message is I shouldn't cast undo disparity on IE7, but... it is interesting the number of hits I found when I googled blue screen and IE7.

The optimum set up would be to have both hdds on the same IDE cable, the slower drive will dictate the speed of the devices set as master and slave.

Yes, you will need to place the second OS on a separate partition. You can either wipe the dirve and then reformat and partition the hdd, or use a utility like Symantec's Partition Magic or Acronis's Partition manager to create the second partition. This article explains it well.

There are several things that could cause this to happen, one of the most common on computers that have been around for a while is overheating caused by dust and pet fur decreasing air circulation. If you have added RAM then you know how to get inside the case, take …

It sounds like the CPU may be overheating, is the heat sink and fan seated properly on the CPU? If the heat sink has come loose from the CPU you should reapply the thermal compound.

You will more than likely need to reinstall the OS. The information on the hdd is "writen" to it magnetically, by placing the magnet on the laptop may have damaged the content of the hdd.

Splice wire in to lengthen them, either solder them or use butt crimp connectors. The solder connection would be best, be sure to either use shrink tube or tape to coover joints.

Have you scanned for bugs? Most manufacturers have a downloadable diagnostic tool that you make a CD from and boot with it to check out your hdd. If you know what hdd you have try that.

You not only need a PSU with a 24 pin connector, you are going to also need one that has the 12V 4pin connector for the CPU. If you look at your motherboard there is a square four pin connector just off of the corner of the PCU. Not having …

I did a short look for information regarding this and didn't find anything definitive. What does seem to be a common thread though is the BIOS, you might try clearing the CMOS. It has also been suggested that an update of the BIOS may help. With all the problems that …

Let's see if I can unscramble your puzzle, are you asking for example if you had a 100GB hdd but it only shows as being 95GB? If this is the case it is normal, the hdd retains a space/cache in order to move information around.

Because the computer will work without a problem after a restart I don't think it's the PSU. Has this problem just started recently? If so try a last good configuration. I would be interested in seeing what is showing up in the event viewer at those times.

You could try a last good configuration. You could also take the hdd and install it as a slave drive in another computer and save you files to a CD or DVD and then wipe the drive and start over.

Have you scanned for bugs? I would run AVG, Spybot Search and destroy, Adaware, and Asquared, and it would be most effective if you did this in safe mode. btw...all of the above are free downloads.

Intel only shows 2 PCI slots and one PCI-E X1 slot, nothing is said about the PCI-E X16. There may be using this board for other model that do offer the X16.

What you are describing sounds like a poor connection. Are there any burn marks on the copper tabs of the boards that you have used? It might also be worth looking a the different rail voltages with a DMM.

Hi BarbE, and welcome to Dani Web. It would help if you were to tell us what operating system you are using. You may need to set the CD-ROM as the first boot device in order to use the recovery disc.

Go back and do a minimal build, add each component till you have the problem. Make sure you RAM is properly seated. Your problem was there before you installed Vista. Vista is a major resource hog, it is suggested that you have a minimum of 1GB or RAM.

You may have exceeded the capacity of the slots that you installed the 512MB modules in. A lot of motherboards that ran on PC100 and PC133 had a maximum capacity of 256 in each slot. What is the motherboard?

Did you ever get back to the people at overclock.net with what version you are using? For those of you reading this...there were problems with versions earlier than 1.77 which would result in showing an error code 57, apparently they were able to resolve this in later versions.

I just looked at Crucial and Kingston and neither show PC2100 modules for that motherboard. I think you are going to be purchasing new RAM. If you are interested this is what Crucial suggests for that motherboard.

Goldeagle is on the right track, but I would go with a converter that interfaces from the hdd directly to the IDE cable. I'm not suggesting this specific product, this is just an example.

If Crucial says that it will support 1GB of RAM go with the single module it will be faster that the two 512mb if you're not running dual channel. Btw, I personally prefer Crucial.
