That noise is usually the hdd. Go to the manufacturers site and download their diagnostic tool and run it. Most of these will require you to transfer this download to a floppy to boot from.

Whether you bought gas yesterday or will by it tomorrow will not make a bit of difference to the oil companies. It all evens out in the end as profits go. Making this demonstration in the attempt to make that oil industry aware of how fed up we are with …

Inconsistent date and time is usually because of the 3V CMOS battery going south. If you are going to install another operating system you will need to at least reformat the hdd.

It has been suggested my another member that teens are unjustly stereotyped as being bad drivers. Personally I don't believe this because it conflicts with the current general consensus that the stereotypical bad driver is either a woman or a minority. My contention is that teens aren't bad drivers, but …

First off...use only one anti virus at a time, they do not play well together, especially snorton. With the combination of infections and missing files I would suggest wiping, not a format, the hdd and reinstalling the OS. You can download WipeDrive for this purpose. If you still have infections …

A couple of things come to mind, have you run scans for infections? Bear in mind that reformatting may not delete some viruses, you will need to either get rid of them by using anti virus, anti spyware...or wipe the hdd and start fresh that way. Reformatting only deletes the …

Out of the seven web sites that I visit or use on a regular basis this site is consistently the slowest to open pages. Granted I'm using a dial up connection that averages 26.4kbps, but the other sites open much faster. Can anyone here explain why this is?

It would be simpler to install the other hdd as a slave drive and transfer the files for the slave to the master. This is very quick and simple.

Chaky...you beat me to the response. I agree, it would not be cost effective to repair the drive.

Are you sure that you have the on/off header pins properly wired? There is an interaction that occurs between the PSU and the motherboard when it is first turned on. The motherboard shorts the green wire in the 20/24 pin connector to ground to turn on the PSU. If the …

If this computer is still under warranty you would be better off letting HP replace the fan as finding one to replace it with could be a real problem.

ECC is error correcting RAM which typically was found in servers and is slower because of the extra chip monitoring the others. Motherboards that run on PC133 could be picky about what RAM they would like to see, the cas latency and voltage should be ok but you may have …

We really need to know what make and model your computer is if it is retail, if it is a home brew we will need to know what the motherboard is. You can also go to Crucial and use their configurator to determine what the motherboard is and what RAM …

The PSU is intended to power the system, not for welding. Make sure that the motherboard is isolated from the case. The only areas of the motherboard are the ones that have the solder surrounding the mounting holes.
