There are apple apps that will only work on WiFi. Airplay, Itunes share, and facetime are a few off the top of my head.
DHCP (Distributed Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
It is a method of sending information from one IP address to another. A simpler description is, a method used by your router to "talk to your computers". It doesn't matter if you use WiFI or Ethernet, both use DHCP. Normally, this setting is left to the router to assign. You can place your own in, providing you know the range of numbers you can use.
This is territory that is best left to ones that are familiar to setting up a router. There is a strong possibility of setting the wrong setting and you will have no network. Fortunately it is not dependant on the OS so if you have someone in the know, wether they are MAC or PC doesn’t matter.
This is getting way off of track concerning your problem. Did you try turning off your WiFi and see if the problem persists. Interference from something as simple as a microwave can affect your single (under certain circumstances!) You can turn it on and off without it affecting anything. So if you choose to facetime, turn on WiFi and be ready to smile.

Please note the time of occurance and then take a look at the system log. See if it produces any hints. Turn off the WiFi and see if the problem persists. These days Apple is insisting on WiFi. One solution that comes to mind, if the problem persists after shutting off the WiFi, is to apply a manual address for your DHCP. You would have to reserve the address on your router. It really depends on the munufactor of the router for the procedure.

It looks like someone is short on their libraries. I take it that you approached your instructor with the problem? She said "what an interesting delima you have here, this is a good learning experence for you", and then left you high and dry. Welcome to the real world. She really didn't, she wants to see what you can do.
Told nothing, expect miracles. Why is everybody picking on me? Bla,bla, bla. This is a relativly simple problem and well within your abilities to fix, even though you do not realize it.
I really would recommend loading xcode on your system. You state that you do not have the banwidth to do so... at home. Then go to your library! Better yet, set up an appointment with a genius at the apple store and if you are up front with your problem they will show you what libraries to load and how to load them and they would probably download xcode right there.
A good resource that you should check out is source forge (sourceforge.net). They have all the libraries that you could need and then some. You can even pick up some quality routines.
You now have the resources that you need, now it is up to you what you do with them. The more that you can think your way out of a box, the better chance you will have out in the real world.

There are a multitude of ways! Some are free and some cost.
So, first up, free with wired connection. A app included with your OS is image capture. It is more of a image (Photo and Video) traffic cop. It recognizes a video device when it is plugged into your mac. It presents options on what you want to do with you pics, such as select photos to move to iPhoto, aperture, or any other graphic app on your mac.
Lets look at doing it free and wirelessly. Dropbox is a great way of moving ANY files from one device to another. DropBox works on your Mac, iPad, iPhone, and even your PC!
Paid solutions are suppose to make life easy. Well Photosync (1.99) is one of these apps that does exactly that. It allows you to sync photos to and from all of your devices. You can send 1, 10, 100 or all of your photos. It will even let you transfer videos from your camera too! It will allow you to place them in your dropbox.
I really did not want to mention iCloud because it is either on or off and there is no way of moving photos already existing.

Yes, you can drag it to the trash and not worry about it. There are other components or files associated with the application. There is a plst file. This holds all on the preferences of the application so that it will be set up the same every time you launch the app and there is another related folder in application support. Both of these files are small and do not pose any weight on your system. Both of these files are in your user library file. I do not recommend touching this folder as you can corrupt your account. It will not hurt leaving them there. In future, there are apps that will remove associated files of an app. Hazel and appzapper come to mind.

There is so many companies offering server access, the list is huge. Singapore is a very modern city and there are probably dozens you can choose from. Your situation involves a twist on searching for a hosting company. I am not sure if english is you native language and/or you site is in english. Should this be the case, I would recommend that the support staff/help desk be fluent in english. You are close enough to Japan or India, and should be able to find a good deal. There is nothing stopping you from selecting a North American site. Once you narrow down your choices, call up the help desk and see if it works.
A lot of hosting sites offer monthly and/or yearly rates. Considering that this is your first go, I would recommend that you take the monthly rate and if they work for you, then consider the cheaper yearly rate. You will probably notice that a lot of these hosting sites will offer a free domain. Watch this one, because it will trap you to their services for a year. Make sure that it is transferable and that it is registered in your name.
You are going to find out that there is a lot to setting up a website besides the webpages, but if you spend the time at it, grasshopper, you have taken a step closer to your geek badge. Keep in touch and any questions, you know how to thread.

There are many ways to create a website. For free.... well, that really depends on what you mean by free. You could take a crash course and learn html code. There are several apps, that will create web pages without any html. These usually retail anywhere from $30 to $80. Mac comes with an app, Iweb, that allows you to create web pages, but you can only publish it if you have a mobile me account.
You can get your own domain, which should only cost you somewhere between $10 to $18 per year. It depends on the domain name (.com .ca .net .org).
Hosting is usually a company that rents you space on their servers to allow people to see your website. The cost can be as low as $5 to several hundreds, depending on what you want. It sounds like you want a relativity simple site so your cost should be in the $5 to $10 range. Contrary to popular belief, your hosting company does not have to be in your area. It can be several thousands of miles away and in different countries. Isn' t the web wonderful, distance doesn't matter although I would recommend you keep it on the same continent.
You do have the option of hosting the website off of your mac. I would only recommend this to someone very experienced in the mac and the web. it takes a lot of work and knowledge to keep the hacking hounds at bay!

When you opened up the display panel in the system preferences, there was a list of resolutions displayed. The setting that your screen was at was highlighted. If you click on another resolution, the screen will switch so you can see what it would look like. The screen resolution that you have selected (1344 X 756) is not on the recommended list for a 27" imac. Click on one of the three mentioned before and if you are satisfied with it, close the display panel.

A 27" imac has an aspect ratio of 16:9 ( standard HD). Apple states that you can go up to 2560 by 1440 pixels. Apple states that there Supported resolutions for a 27" display are:2560 by 1440 pixels, 1920 by 1080 pixels, 1280 by 720 pixels. Do not worry about trying them. The Display panel will let you switch resolutions to see what works for about 5 seconds and if you do not like it , it will default back to your last setting. Want to keep the setting, hit return.
Apple presents you with many different resolutions and some will not work properly for your screen. Some may leave you with vertical bars down each side or the information will not fit on the screen. They don't do this just to fyu, rather is is in anticipation that you will hook up another monitor that is of different dimensions.

Sorry about that. The path is : System preferences--> Displays .

Do you use any third party app to set your resolutions? It sounds that some app is attempting to override the settings for your screen or you have chosen an improper ratio for your screen. Have you tried to switch your Resolutions via the system preference. Stick with what apple offers in the System preferences--> Monitors .

I don't know if you have found a solution to you receiving mails. Great if you have, but please post. Still not having any luck post the details from the connection doctor. This will tell you where the problem is and what to do to solve it.

macmad 29 Junior Poster in Training

You are going to have to get some more information. Can you send mail from your application. Is there any symbols after your mail account of your message viewer. Please run the connection doctor (under window) and see if if it connects with your ISP. Do you have more than one account set up? Is is a POP or an IMAP account.
Have no fear, mail troubleshooting can get quite nasty as there are many different settings involved. One step at a time.

Spotlight works great for quick searches, but I don't think that spotlight is what you are looking for. Try search (apple f). This utility will allow you to create any search criteria and either save it to your finder window or place it in a folder so your finder window does not get too cluttered.

Danarchy commented: I agree about Spotlight not being a very thorough finder. +6
