Maybe I am not clear. I built my own PC and I repair them. I just for some reson can not burn a DVD DL. I can burn a CD or a DVD, but after completing a disc burn it says completed and then opens the drive door. When you go to read the disc and you can see the marks that it is burned, it can not be read. I've used many programs IMGBurn, etc. and it does the same thing since the April 2018 update. I do all of the updates. I even went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the new iso and burned a disc and updated Windows 10. NG. If anyone else has had this problem, please post a message.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

You would not send me an answer to a message in a PM because I quote, "I would not send it in a PM because it would only benefit you". Now you want to. What was your problem? I forgot about it until Dani asked me something and I opened your nice message. In Windows 10, I still can not make a DVD DL. So if you want the world to kow and I really could care what or where you answer it. Post it.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

Can you tell me how to burn a DVD DL using Windows 10 and Cyberlink Media Suite, IMGBurn, Express Burn, Winx DVD Author, Wondershare or Windows 10 own burning software. Since I installed the Windows 10 update in April it stoppped working.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

Can you tell me how to do a differntial image using Windows 10 and with the what free software?

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

I would try to make recovery discs. I had a disc partition fail and I returned the laptop one day after I bought it for that reason. They do fail. I had trouble with a second HP Pavilion and called the tech support and they agreed the partition failed and mailed me two recovery discs free. Google for some type of recovery software or if no other choice boot and pray. I would definatly clone the next sytem as was stated above.

rproffitt commented: This is my experience as well. "Let's pray." +15

Can not create a dvd dl in windows 10 only a dvd or cd since the april 2018 windows update

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

Have you run Ccleaner?
It will clean all caches in the computer and much more.
Go to RUN and type %TEMP% and run it.
That will take you to a temp folder and delete everything.
Go to Windows\temp\ and delete everything.
Have you tried 'windows defrag'.
That will move files closer and may speed it up.

I closed the cover to my HP Pavilion 900 Series and when I opened it later it had a white screen with dots and slash lines on a 45 degree angle across the whole screen. I rebooted and it went away. A week later the screen was light blue but withthe same lines. Anyone encounter that?

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

I added a second Hard Drive to the extra bay in a HP Pavilion Notebook and it disappers after a few minutes. It then comes back if you reboot and fades out again. Sometimes it will come back and ask you if you want to do something to the new drive. What is happening?

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

Good Idea Jingda. If he didn't get the idea yet we did not explain it enough and I don't think so. But one more thing. IF, you do have a business make sure you get NORTON HOST or another program that will backup the whole computer after you fix it. I would even suggest they buy it and a backup external drive. At least if it doesn't have the partition you are not looking for drivers. After 5 years I think that most computer companies to not have replacement factory restore discs. Also some put the restore disc creator on the computer which allows one copy. Remember most people do not even know you can restore it.

I was trying to remove the RC1 version and looked in the Add remove programs and it is not there under updates that were installed. I checked in disk cleanup and it is not there thoses are the backup files I was told I need to uninstall RC1. I remember reading about a line in the registry to foll windows into thinking it is the original and not the SP1 version. Do you know what that is?

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

I tried to install Windows 7 SP1 RC2 and I can not find the backup files in add remove programs. I am reading that I may have to do a custom install which means all off my 39 software programs again. XP was easier. what a mistake Microsoft made not allowing an upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows XP without installing a clean copy everytime.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

Pirate it. :) I had the same trouble after I installed (Custom) Windows 7 upgrade that I bought, I called Microsoft and Digital River (Microsoft's sales vendor for the download)and both of them told me the error was my fault and I used the number wrong.
I reinstalled Windows and it gave me the validation error twice. I found a pirate crack and I am on talking to you. They are terrible I may go to Linix.

Well I do not think the fact that I do not know all about OEM disks makes me not qualified to start a computer repair business. From people I have talked to before about this question they use torrents to get disks like these and yet they are good enough to be techs... I have built computers, done hardware troubleshooting, software troubleshooting, and network problems working in the IT department for my college but I have never had to install OEM software because of it being a college and the fact that they have enterprise editions of windows. I just wanted to do it the right way and know what I needed to get before hand. I plan to do computer repair and on top of that setups for small businesses. What I mean by this is going to their business and setting up everything that they need including the hardware, software, network, and servers. I have taken 3 programming classes so far in college and at first that is what I was going to do but I hate it. I would much rather be my own boss and start up a repair business. I know that you most likely would never make a ton of money just doing computer repair but like I said that was just going to be a part of it.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

No you don't have to get a new copy of Windows. I have SPOTMAU and I am sure there is another product that will find the product key, like SPOTMAU that retrieves the Product Key even if Windows dos NOT start from SPOTMAU's BOOT DISC You see it boots from a format like LINUX and that does NOT need Windows. But, yeah if you did not know that you are a beginner. DELL told me that you can use any Windows Disc over 12 years ago. I am doing this since 1990. But study up some more and do programming and you can do the computer reapirs in your sleep.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

You need to go through those latest updates and see what they were. Since this is a recent happening there is a chance one of these could be the cause.
I AM glad you removed those two programs noted, however I see you are still running this useless program RegCure on there. No reason under the sun to use an automatic registry cleaner, ever. It's own website is ranked as one with a very poor reputation, known for Phishing, pop-ups, malware content.
http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/regcure.com
If a program's home website cannot be trusted then why would their programs be trusted?

You also now show several listings for the AskBar. Which is sort of a "low level" malware since it "drives traffic to its search engine by enticing users to install its toolbars". It sometimes is included, "piggybacked" automatically in downloads. Now sometimes is designated by a little check box with the check mark all ready in place giving the supposed "ok" to included it in the download, whatever that download may be. It is easily missed by many so if the check mark isn't removed then the AskBar comes on in with the download, even if it has nothing to do with what is being downloaded. But it also will be included without the users knowledge at all either. These will need to be removed.
You have a lot of unnecessary auto starting programs and services, mainly for the Roxio program. Not all of these are needed …

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

PROBLEM FIXED.

Network discovery requires that the dnscache, fdrespub, ssdpsrv, and upnphost services are started, that the Windows Firewall exception for network discovery is enabled, and that other firewalls are not interfering with network discovery. If some but not all of these are true, the network discovery state will be shown as Custom".

I beg to differ, note this from your HJT log....

SEE ABOVE 023 Service: BONJOUR SERVICE that is disabled

Boujour is also deleted from Add Remove Programs NO LUCK YET.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

Yeah VISTA had it first, but the info I found said Microsoft never heard of the problem. Maybe she never did, but I am sure they know of it.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

Tell you what Jim, have spent quite a bit of time looking for answers to this and one thing I can say, not that it will make a huge difference, is YOU ARE NOT ALONE. This seems to be a major and continuing complaint for many, many people. Seems to have begun for some with Vista and now is "snowballing" for those running Windows 7. To me this says the problem lies right in Microsoft's lap. Something they truly need to address.
Now one possible solution I found noted on multiple websites was to disable the Bonjour DNS Responder Service which is typically installed with the iTunes software. Apple's site describes: You DO show that in your HJT log. It is NOT a required service. Several threads I found that users had disabled this service entirely and their problems disappeared. You might try that.

Another possiblilty I found was in this thread;
http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-vista/network-discovery-problem/1381.html

Of course you posted this Jim:

Also found this thread which began with a post in 2007 concerning the same problem with a Vista machine with no results noted until posts in 2008

which had posts concerning those 4 services you checked earlier being set to automatic and also this added:

Then these posts in that very same thread beginning with the date Sunday, December 14, 2008 5:48 AM

I have all services in services.msc turned on and no luck.

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

Very possible some key services are not set to automatic:
Click Start and type Services.msc in the dialog box to open the services snap-in.
Then check if the following services are started:
--SSDP Discovery
--TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
--Computer Browser
--Server
If not, set the startup type to automatic and click start to start the services.

That said, you have some useless programs on there and why you would want these on any computer, let alone Windows 7 I have no idea:
AVG for one. One of the lowest ranking av programs around. Lately the bulk of infected computers I have helped with seem to all have at least one thing in common...AVG.
RegCure- there is no good reason to run a registry cleaner, especially one that runs all the time. If registry cleaning is really able to boost performance then the developers of the programs would give actual proof of this (performance prior to cleaning -vs- performance post cleaning) on REAL computers but this is never given. A well respected tech friend of mine always says;
and this is the philosophy I have always followed and it works for me.
IObit\Advanced SystemCare-just doesn't get good reviews and it's own home website receives an Unsatisfactory ranking from WOT.
The same goes for Uniblue DiskRescue, an unsatisfactory rating for it's home website and another program like IObit that offers a free scan but you have to Pay for the fixes. …

ANYONE:
I have a Microtek ScanMaker V6ULP and it worked in Vista and now see and does not see the scanner in Windows 7. Anyone have one and has it working?

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

YES I DID ON MY OWN, WOW IT WAS A CHALLENGE LOTS OF FRUSTRATION AND REBOOTS, AND TRY AN ERROS, BUT FINALLY GOT IT DONE, AND THANKS FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS.
iMike.

Can you tell me how to do it? Is it on a PC and MAC is added or a PC and MAC is added?

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

So be a fair guy.
HOW DID YOU DO IT?.
I would be interested.

Any luck getting it down on paper so I can try it? Can you add a MAC OS to a PC? Or do you have to use a MAC machine and add Windows?

DaniWeb4Jim 47 Junior Poster

ok , I will, just give a day or two to write everything down, cause there is a few things you have to do before. get back in a day or two.

You got it my friend,
Thanks
