I've been trying to TELL people that "threat immunity" does not exist for a LONG, LONG time!

I love bacon... and they lost me after weaving the foundation :)
Good thing that mandarines still have seeds!
They need to multiply!
Usually, they are harvested before the seeds are large, I guess. I love the tangerines that peel easily, are juicy and if they have seeds, they are teeny tiny seeds.
These seeds are HUGE, and although the fruit peels without a knife, the skin isn't so willing to separate from the segments. :(
I thought I'd cover my whole day of food in one post.
Right Now... coffee made in a French Press. It is quite strong.
Earlier... steel cut oatmeal with honey, and mandarine orange segments :@ (they had SEEDS! They aren't supposed to have SEEDS!)
In the near future ... I will be eating a chocolate chip cookie.
Dinner will be - 7 bean soup with turkey meat added, and french bread with roasted garlic/butter spread.
A slice of whole-wheat toast with (creamy) peanut butter; coffee, black.
Gee... no votes for MYSPACE?

YES? (if a RAFFLE counts? I was shopping just before Christmas and was handed a numbred ticket "herded" into a group where a woman showcased "cubic zirconia" type jewelry, stating the value of each piece and going on for half an hour before she had us rip our ticket in half and put it in a jar. When she (FINALLY) got around to the drawing, I won and was able to select an item shown earlier.
:-D If it matters, I got some earrings that people think are "real".
If that doesn't count, someone else can take this one.
Have you ever been driving and hit or struck an animal other than bugs on your windshield?
You do not have to defragment your hard drive (for reasons stated above), but if you do not leave your Mac running (all the time / at night) then some essential scripts may not be performed.
You can perform these maintenance tasks manually with apps like these:
Onyx
Main Menu
Cocktail
(among others)
These are available on sites like MacUpdate and VersionTracker
You can also run them yourself in Terminal without a GUI based app if you wish:

No.
Did you attempt to download iLife 09?
Well right now, I am not eating. But Dinner consisted of pork roast, salad, and a baked potato. Then, four hours later, I had wheat toast with peanut butter!
You should try AppZapper for an uninstaller.
I am sorry you had problems with ClamAv, I however did not, and I had no problems with the first time run once I installed it.
The GUI isn't very spectacular, but it is free, and it does work, because I have had it find "viruses" in downloaded email messages. GRANTED, they are not "Mac" Viruses. They are usually old PC-based viruses. But, just like a cold, your Mac can be a carrier for the viruses and spread them around. :)
I hope you find an app that you like for your needs.
Check out ClamXav the Macintosh version of the popular opensource ClamAV. http://www.markallan.co.uk/clamXav/
It may not have all the bells and whistles of a full app but it does seem to be stable on 10.4.7 and has many useful features.
I find that CLAMX AV works very well. I second the nomination for ClamX AV.
Some Freeware antivirus programs:
www.grissoft.com (AVG antivirus)
http://www.clamwin.com/ (Clam Win Antivirus)
both free. both have auto-update (definitions) and both will alert you to software updates when available.
alternately, you can purchase (and subscribe to for a fee) McAfee or Norton Antivirus :) the benefit to this would (I am assuming) phone based tech support.
When you import songs into iTunes, it gives you preference options I think they are: [copy the file(s), move the file(s), let me organize my music folder]
When you let iTunes manage the music, it categorizes them into folders by artist and album.
Sometimes the digital signature of a CD gets mixed up with another (i.e., my brother's band has a CD that when you let iTunes import it and name the songs, it thinks it is an Iron Maiden CD from 1987). :)
There are a few different apps for OSX that you can use to fix your tags:
Fix Tunes : www.fixtunes.com
and one called
I Eat Brainz: http://musicbrainz.org/doc/IEatBrainz
I have used both, and both work well, however ... there are still some tags it cannot retrieve; mainly for Mp3s I ripped LONG LONG ago. :)
Is the purpose of this quest to have a stable OS or to have the experience of writing an OS?
(If you want a DOS type interface option that is frequently updated and ever-changing - with both command line / GUI - you could always go for Linux.)
RIGHT NOW? I am just drinking the rest of the Diet DR Pepper I had with dinner...
I had tacos (ground turkey, and the seasoning I mix myself because I like more heat and less salt than the packaged mixes offer).
Topped with: lettuce, tomato, diced onion, minced up jalapeno (makes them hotter) and grated white new york cheddar cheese.
Stuffed in: Old ElPaso (I think) Stand N Stuff shells, toasted.
and the Diet Dr. Pepper (I'm getting used to it)
I have a Snickers Bar in the refrigerator...
Before you read any of the rest of this -- Please be very careful if you tinker around in services.msc...
there is a specific service called RPC Locator. It has right click settings for when the service fails. By default it reboots the computer when the service fails (first, second, third failure). You can set this to "restart service" for the first two, leave it for reboot computer for the third... that way you will at least be aware that there is a problem if it does fail.
RPC Locator was the service affected by (it was either) Code Red or the Sasser worm(s). It basically caused the computer to reboot spontaneously and in a loop. Changing the setting to the service did not eradicate the virus, but it allowed you to stay up long enough to work through the fix.
*** before you change any settings in this utility, you have to be aware that you could change something that could completely disable your system. You need to do research (try to find a reputable source) and I would also recommend writing down the name of any service and its current setting - before changing it, and also what you changed the setting to be. ***
BUT - I agree with cguan about checking for malware if you have not already done so. There are many free utilities to do this; Spybot Search and Destroy, and LavaSoft Adaware are two that I have used. (you …
Well, I would start by re-visiting what you have changed or installed (most) recently.
I would also question whether or not your AntiVirus software is (reliable) and up to date. There are so many reasons that your computer would do this that is will not be a quick answer type thing; it would involve process of elimination.
I am assuming you selected "safe mode with networking", since you were able to post a question. :)
Other questions ---
When did the problem first occur?
Have you attempted using a restore point?
Is there any other specific information in the error(s) you receive?
It could be that a service is failing (A Windows service
is an 'always on' application that is constantly running in the background of your system; not to be confused with program applications). Some of these are programmed (or set) to reboot the computer when they fail.
If you are not familiar with what servies are, what they do, and the general underlying programming that WinXP has, I do NOT recommend you dive in and just start changing or disabling them.
It could be a bad driver (do you have Windows Live Update set to do the drivers, or just Critical updates?) I do not (personally) recommend trusting Windows alone on driver updates, but do recommend doing Critical Updates as they come available.
Hi there. Here is a little about me, for those who are wondering.
I am a 39 year old female. I have been married for eight years. We live in California, USA.
I have been playing with, fixing, and working with computers since 1990. My first system was a Packard Bell 386sx, 4 MB of ram and a 40MB hard drive (if memory serves). It had a 2400 baud Modem. (hahaha). I upgraded it during the first year to have 8MB ram and added a sound card (whooo.... 16 bit even) and a CD ROM drive.
Since then I have had many systems, most of them custom-built by me. Currently I use a Mac Powerbook (don't ban me or think this means I am one of "THOSE" people--I have no ill feelings towards any particular platform). I bought my Mac because I liked the way it looks, and because I have respect for the architecture of the OS. I have never believed - nor do I ever ever miss a chance to disagree with someone who claims that "macs cannot get a virus".
When I am not working or caring for the pets, you can generally find me sitting on the couch with my laptop - enjoying WiFi and watching movies.
My spouse and I are the "go to" people for our friends having problems with anything they call "electronical". (yes, that is a term one of them actually uses).
Sometime in the near …
I found a post on a weblog that recommends a few different programs for what you describe.
I tried JdiskReport (available in multiple platforms too) AND ITS FREEWARE.
Worked on my Mac - worked on our PC. I hope this is helpful to you.
