Language only affects if you are seeking traffic from other countries that many not understand the content on your site. Otherwise, if I am an American searching for content and Google tells me its from a romanian site and it appears on the SERPs, I would use translate. So in a way, in today's world, language is not a barrier to consuming content.

1. keywords and how these relate to your landing page
2. display words

Hi
Im a little confused. So you want to create an account to have PPC ads on your site or do you want to have a PPC campaign?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Yes, I agree with you. Twitter does bring people together and it also helps brings value to both the consumer and the business. But it is not an overnight success. It takes time to nurture relationships with members of your community.

Do you really want your site to be on the 5th page of SERP for Google? REsearch shows that the majority of searchers only view 2-3 pages max. Thus, it is very important to optimize your site to appear on the first page by following all the best practices.

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I agree with posters about going for the older site - PageRank can be easily changed with SEO changes - site domain age cant. Remember that!

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I totally agree with mapping keywords based on strategy. Very important. Also, one has to keep in mind which words your competitors use.

To be honest, despite the low price, you might not have great performance due to the reach. Thus, I recommend you to consider long tail terms on Google/Yahoo which are usually cheaper and have higher CTR.

Click fraud is very dangerous game and you dont want Google to discover and penalize your site - literally forever...

PPC may provide very beneficial depending on the keyword however you have to be careful that you dont use up your allocated amount with general keywords rather than keywords that reflect consumers closer to the buying funnel.

Ali, there have been many similar questions posed on this site and many great advice. Also, do think of how you can use these services to:
1. create a sense of community
2. Share and contribute
3. Make it an extension of your brand/company

Also, be realistic. You might not get the 1,000 daily visitors, but you increase the chances of driving very targeted traffic that will convert to your brand!

Very excellent point. I actually shared your sentiments completely, especially about Facebook. Since we both know Facebook is in the business of ensuring:
1. that users stay there as long as possible
2. each friend means more $ for Facebook
3. the more privacy for the user means less money for Facebook -
of course facebook will make life harder to protect our privacy since it means they are leaking money.

Google has a very interesting and ever changing algorithm. Thus, pages with new content may get indexed much more than statis ancient pages but there are other nuisances as well. http://www.google.com/webmasters/

You may need to consider adding some online digital advertising at niche sites in order to drive qualified traffic to your website. You can drive all the traffic you want, but if they dont convert, then whats the use?

Thanks for the 411. This is scary. Haiti needs all our help and people who exploit this situation are just gathering bad karma points.

DIGG and Stumbleupon have a different user experience, thus, the user have different expectation of the sites seen on these two sites. There are more actual visibility on Digg and more accidental visibility on StumbleUpon.

As an analyst, I have noticed better conversion rates for second iter search engines in the category of Images. Many users have recognized that Bing Image results are more user friendly than Google. As this fact is becoming well known, I expect to see better CTRs.

The power of social media 2.0 have demonstrated beyond personal and professional boundaries. Look at how international news that were ignored by major news outlet or at least local made international headlines. So I believe everyone benefits from social media in one way or another - either by media consumption or by generating new content.

Have you posted a video online and wondered how people foudn the video, when during the video viewers stopped watching, and most of all, did the viewers liked the video? I know YouTube have a basic analytics reporting now but what other tools do you use to obtain such information regarding the video you posted on your blog or site?

The biggest difference between SEO and SEM is organic vs paid.
SEO = Search Engine Optimization
SEM = Search Engine Marketing

SEO = you can enhance SERP results by tweeking chances on your website
SEM = its all about paid marketings, PPC, banner ads, any paid drivers that help bring traffic to your website.

I encourage you to search on this forum and you will find a wealth of insights.

Facebook uses pokes to adjust their algorithms. Thus, the more you poke your friend, the more news you get on your friend. So my question for you is "Do you poke?"

These pokes actually have a financial cost involved. Interesting.

There are so many recommendations on SEO but my question is: How do you measure it? How do you know that your SEO tactics/optimization actually worked? I think one way is to track the amount of organic visitors before and after the refresh. What else do you measure or track?

Blogging is easy..however...it is like a plant...you constantly have to nurture it - in this case, with relevant and valuable content, and cultivate a following, in order to really see results.

I have a few twitter accounts and I have posted links in all of them. It depends on many factors such as:
1. the quality of your posts - are you only posting links or are you actually contributing to others by retweeting and responding to other - thus creating that sense of community
2. Are your links self serving or its actually helping others?
3. Type of followers

All these factors affect your click through rate in TwitterLand.

I would also add that this professional should have a strong curiosity to keep up with trends, best practices, and with case studies of what other businesses have know that worked and did not worked. This way, the professional can have an arsenal of knowledge that will lead the recommendations to a higher level of effectiveness.

Thanks for sharing this link. I was cracking up. Since this is a social media campaign, imagine if users also post "pictures" and "audio/video" of their experience. This could mean bring advertising or buzz as media people call it, but it sure will be lots of "crap" as well. :-)

With the exception of Digg, all the major social networking sites had more women than men. I wonder why? Why do you think so? Personally, I know I have been on social networking sites since 1992 via Usenet and IRC. Yes, you might not have heard of these two, but this is way before Google came to the picture, kiddos.

I just read on a blog about how Drew Carey started a bid $25k to buy his username on Twitter. Drew is willing to go up to 100k!!!

So what about the non-celebrities out there. Would you buy your name on Twitter if someone else already has this? What do you think about this?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

I just read a Comscore report stating that the click through rates for display ads have gone down throughout the years. Hence, if this revenue stream is being diminished, will this push companies to start charging members for membership? I remember this was done in the early 2000s and those charged communities just died or adopted a freemium or free model. So if your online community is facing extinction, would you pay not get ads?

InsightsDigital 57 Posting Virtuoso

Being on social media, I have noticed there are certain "twitter celebrities" or even Myspace celebrities like Tila Tequila. Thus, I wonder what makes someone into an online celebrity, does it matter, and does it help you from a professional standpoint? Perhaps I am already a celebrity here on DaniWeb? ;)

First of all, I believe that tweeting attracts a certain type of behavioral profile of a person who enjoys constant updates on themselves and other information. From a business perspective, the endless stream of tweets may seem like an attractive way to "put it out there". My issue is that most people may not even be reading the tweets from an hour ago. It is like a soap bubble. It is ephemeral.

Hence, to answer your question after my soliloquy. Yes, I have actually started a few different twitter accounts, one for myself, one for a karma project, one for a web show I was doing, and one for my business. At the end, I noticed that even though I had so many followers in each group and I tweeted and tweeted, I just lost the novelty of it. I felt like Forrest Gump while he was running and realized, why is he doing this and just stopped.

Thanks SMRTY for sharing that business testimonial. I knew Skype was used for more than just friendly conversations. Overall, Skype is not the only acquisition in which Yahoo could not monetize.

Thanks for sharing that thread. Black Hat SEO may provide good short term results but in the long run, it is like making a deal with an unethical agent. Think of it as steroids. It may give you fast results but it is not good at all.

Even last year, I used to perform a manual qualitative approach to "listening" to my consumers. Now there are other tools that perform this task automatically and so many are popping up like Radian6 and BuzzMetrics to name a few. So my question is "Is it really important for you to listen to your audience?" And if so, do you use these social media monitoring tools to listen.

Also, when is it not a good moment/industry to listen. Many pharmaceutical companies are hesistant on using such tools because if they detect an adverse effect, the company is responsible to reporting it to the FDA which may represent major product/brand repercussions
