I don't think StutterFly program would lead your laptop to BSOD. It could be either the movie player itself but I believe it was Norton that cause the crash. You should uninstall it and try other Anti-Virus in market like Avast, Avira, Kaspersky etc.

Try using the command in 'command prompt' below to check for any missing filesystem in your windows partition

sfc /scannow

you'll need the original windows installation disk in order to repair filesystem using this though

or if possible, try to use another monitor. Maybe you've been messing around with the resolution setting and set it too big for your monitor to support. Another possibility is your monitor has problems.

Hi all,
I am running a dual display an have been for month, after an windows update i hav lost the display on my LG W2246T monitor. I have updated the drver for my GeForce Gt 220 card.

Try to boot windows from safe mode and see if the display show up or not. Mostly the problem lies within windows update and drivers.

Because RAM store some piece of system files as backup in it. It's temporarily permanent so the small portion of that RAM cannot be used or taken by any programs whatsoever till you shut down your computer. Correct me if I'm wrong.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Anyone with help on soving this will be greatly appreciated ! The computer runs fine, starts fine and shuts down fine, besides the Internet problem. I use Internet Explorer 8.

Did it just happen only in Internet Explorer or it also happen in another browser eg. Firefox/Opera etc.?

For IE, it's best to reset to it's default by going to Internet Options -> Advance tab -> Reset to Default. Maybe this could solved that problem.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Try to check the picture resolution. Anything smaller than 640x480 might not fit enough for your desktop background.

Also try with other picture with higher resolution if possible.

artiton..."i have try to other laptop and get same result..
any one.

try to scan disk your external hard disk when plugged in to your computer by using Command Prompt (or just type 'cmd' under Run windows.

Type in the followings

chkdsk "Drive directory" /f /x /r

eg. "" chkdsk e:/ /f /x /r ""

If it found some bad sectors, it will repair the sector automatically. If this still doesn't work, you may have to reformat whole external HDD and just create one partition only.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Maybe the repair disk is corrupted. Try to download a new one from the internet with other computer and burn another repair disk. Additionally, XP repair disk may also work for some basic windows problem.

Wow, it's a 6 month long we've been abandoned this thread and you suddenly came up with a good solution that we never think of. Nice work thp. The credit are all for you actually. I only provided the temporary solution but you yourself found the true culprit of the problem. You deserved it.

And thanks for posting the solution here. It may be useful for other people who have same problem as you are.

There's a way to recover the MBR by using lilo but you'll need to execute it before uninstalling linux ubuntu. If you have uninstall, then you'll need to boot linux by live cd mode or through flash drive. Then install lilo from teerminal and execute the string.

Maybe there's something wrong with heat but it would shutdown immediately when the computer is overheat.

I guess there's something wrong with your Windows, did you change any setting on your Windows recently or install new programs that was on startup?

Try to boot in safe mode and observe. If your computer still shutting down by itself then tell us here.

First please remove the signature... We don't need it here...

For your problem, I suggest give more information about it like what recent program did you install and what new device did you plug-in to your computer? When did it happened?

Problem analysis is needed to find the source of your problem since Blue Screen can be from anything but mostly are from hardware failure such as RAM etc.

I suggest you update your graphic driver from Nvidia Home Site since Microsoft WDDM drivers aren't very good with handling graphic drivers. And then you will gain some additional funtion for display option.

Could be some background programs forced Media Player to restore from full screen. It seems to be a glitch from Media Player itself anyway...

You can try other media player for instance. VLC like Rubberman suggested. I would suggest Media Player Classic though... It bundles with codecs so you can run almost any video on Windows Media Player...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

As you may have explained. It might actually SP3 that cause the problem. Some programs won't work well after upgrade... Did you try update your windows for current resolve issue?

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Lets see. It looks like it wasn't text wrapping problem at all... Something inside office that change how it works normally.

To correct this, you'll have to reset the setting used in your office but it'll have to do it from registry but i'm not really familiar with office 97 system (registry and stuff) so I can't help you to reset it step by step.

I'll look out for anything that might help you solve your problem.

Did you remember what you did to your computer the last time you use it (it doesn't have to be office) like games or stuff?

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Then it's your power supply problem. It only have enough power to light up LED but not the motherboard itself. Consider buying new power supply for your desktop or if you have old computer or other computer that you use, try to salvage it for a while and try it on the faulty computer. If it's on, then most likely your power supply is dead.

Mudi- commented: Solved my problem! :) +1
flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

When you say you solve it by restoring to factory default, it means there was a recovery partition embedded. Kinda weird when you say there's no recovery partition at first and tell you solve by factory default.

By the way, glad to see you've solve your problem.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Since you've try the 'normal' measures to fix it, why not doing it again but this time just let it unplug from any battery/charger for a day.

If this not working, then most probably you have a dead laptop already. I doubt changing RAM and even HDD would do anything to fix it.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Ok lets troubleshoot a little..

First unplug all cable connected to your motherboard, power supply, HDD, SATA cable and DVD-Rom and even RAM. (except cable from your casing)

Then plug in only power supply cable to your motherboard (2 cables) and turn on your computer. If it beeping about three times plus all fans working, then put back RAM and see if the beep still there and observe the fan as well.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

If none of the fans worked, turn them off immediately. You don't want your computer be toast because of stupid overheating.

Have you checked all the cable from power supply to your motherboard? There are 2 main cable to take note, the 24pin (large one) and 4pin (yellow and black cable) and make sure both of it connected properly to the motherboard. If still none, unplug it and plug it back afterwards.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

When you mean fan, do you refer to fan on motherboard or power supply fan?

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Glad to see you've solved your problem. I haven't help much, just telling you what I've done before to solve it.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

A dumb question, maybe all of it was dumb

Did you verify that your USB is even bootable? Possibly on another computer

Do sony product you have has recovery partition embedded in your laptop?

Do you have recovery disk that used to recover your laptop to factory default windows?

And lastly, did you try to press any button when you try to boot your USB?

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Well that's the case for most msoffice. It was defaulted to set as 'between text'. If you've changed the default setting to 'Above text', i think it may have reverted back to 'between text'

Also office '97 can't handle so many clip art layering on each other. When you do that, instead of layer it on top of another clip art, it'll push below clip art. Think of this as 97 curse

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

By default, anything that wasn't text (pictures, wordart etc.) will force push text for itself to be in the page. It also happen in Office '03 and '07 because it was set to be like that.

To bypass, you have to simply right click the clip art, select Text Wrap and select Through. That way, your clip art will be like a background (behind the text) and it's free to move anywhere you want in the page.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Click on start button and type 'msconfig' inside the blank box just above the start button (vista logo). Hit Enter afterwards
Click on startup tab and untick software that you doesn't need to run on startup (which possibly the reason it auto update) like Java, Adobe Reader etc. but don't untick program from system32.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Which office version are you using now?

Literally, inserting a clip art will also automatically create a gap (around 1.5) and if you don't use text warp, text below the clip art will be pushed down further and possibly to second page.

Normal temperature for processor would be around 38 to 65 degree for optimal performance. If it was above that, then very likely overheat is your problem and your processor probably screwed but don't rule out other factor just yet.

Temperature check can also be done in BIOS (some CPU has temperature monitor in BIOS).

For some reason, I don't think overheat causing OS's installation to freeze, it would automatically shut the computer down.

I don't think walkthroughs _always_ ruin the mood, sometimes I just don't enjoy the games little puzzles or I get lost and sometimes even a bug keeps me wandering around for waaay too long. I kind of like 'em sometimes.

Walkthrough is like reading a journal of someone else traveling the road you are going to. If you want something fresh ie. no spoilers etc. then don't read the journal unless you want to unlock secrets earlier to fight some really tough boss.

But really, don't use walkthrough too much or it'll kill the mood.

The Best is Yet to Come - Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snake (PSX)

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

As soon as I read a walkthrough, I lose interest. When I am playing, I like to think I am doing it for the first time. The fear-factor of not knowing what is going to come out of the dark is wonderfully creepy to me. I play dark, dystopic first person shooters - even the bright and beautiful landscapes of half-life2 are scary at first. I am not a very good player as I tend to lack finesse and just go in shooting but I have fun.

but that's where the fun and tense roll over. Explore like nobody knows how to and you'll have either to pull out some stunts and bravery to move on or stay away from dangerous areas. Agree though walkthrough kill the mood. I only read it after finishing the entire game and gain some secrets from the game itself.

This is a noob question but I'm curious though...

Do you play games by cheating or going through walkthrough before or now? And which is better, play normally or goes with cheating?

I did play games by cheating but somehow play with cheat doesn't satisfied me so I went to play normally. The feeling I get with normal level grinding w/o cheat was pure satisfaction when the ending roll. When play with cheat ie superhuman/god, infinite cash, it doesn't give that kind of feeling at all.. what would you guys think?

Two things that I think is at fault for that kind of freezing is either your motherboard and your graphic card or other PCI card on your computer.

And did you try with other CD/DVD drives just to confirm that your DVD drive is at fault?

i am using windows7 by 2gb ram and dual core 2.20, never face any problem

Did you try to backtrack the upgrade from 11.10 to lower version? It happen a lot during upgrade. I would suggest to reinstall Ubuntu but this time fresh install 11.10 instead of installing 11.04 and upgrade to 11.10...

Might hear from other linux users since they may have solution for you...

The other one (the last partition) was probably for swapping purpose. It doesn't need to be combine with each other.

Since Recovery partition was in the middle of both linux partition, very likely you can't combine both until you delete the recovery partition. There was one program that could move partition by moving whole partition involved and transfer any unallocated space to another big unallocated space but I forgot where I found it.
