Then it's your power supply problem. It only have enough power to light up LED but not the motherboard itself. Consider buying new power supply for your desktop or if you have old computer or other computer that you use, try to salvage it for a while and try it on the faulty computer. If it's on, then most likely your power supply is dead.

It could be a registry corrupt since most driver including HDD will automatically update and install on the computer.

There is. Use wubi. It'll install Linux (Ubuntu apparently) with Windows side by side without repartitioning.

If you want to install linux, the best way is to repartition from linux installation itself. Linux use their own partition (ext2,ext3 etc.) so Windows will not detect your linux partition later on. Linux can also install on NTFS partition format but much slower compared to ext foramt.

If your screenshot was like that, then you need to reinstall drivers for your graphic card. First try to remove any additional graphic card and use the integrated graphic card and see if this still happens...

If not, put back your graphic card and update the driver for your graphic card.

If failed, then you might have a graphic card failure...

I'm aware of that. When you post before, you set to ACHI and it solved it, I've been wondering, how did you able to login windows normally under IDE mode instead of ACHI?

Setting to x64 would just take more RAM out but give out most of Windows capability but I don't think that's the root for the problem...

MoZo1 commented: AHCI lol, you noticed it! +3

That's weird. AFAIK if you set IDE instead of ACPI in BIOS, it would just go blue screen repeatedly till it switched to ACPI mode. That's what always happen to my friends computer when they ask to help format from XP to 7...

Can you explain a little bit more detailed for your problem?

If you try to use the installation disk within windows, the problem will always happen... Instead of running it in Windows, boot from it and it should initiate an 'Install Windows' but select 'Repair your Computer' option so it should fix your crash problem.

If nothing comes up on automatic repair, open command prompt under same repair windows and type in this

chkdsk c: /f /x /r

((where C would be your default windows directory. Change it to other drive letter if you install Windows on other partition))
This would take long so be patient till it found problems for you and fix it...

Did you try to uninstall the recent games from safe mode? And also check the startup for any faulty programs that try to run when your computer is starting.

Click on Start and type msconfig in the blank white area just above the seven windows start icon.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

You can check it HERE but there's no compability testing for custom pc or HERE

If there's not any of your motherboard list there, I fear it might be so... You can go here for further support and post a thread with your problem. I'm sure they can attend to your problem much better than me.

You know that doing that will cause you to lost all your data unless you have back it up.

He can back it up after he change his HDD and connect the faulty HDD and copy files that's still readable...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Windows 7 would not cause that problem. The only thing that may be the problem is BIOS setting and computer specs compability or it could be some hardware conflict like graphic card etc.. Perhaps you might need to update your BIOS or check your computer motherboard compability with Linux OS.

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

change BIOS setting from AHCI to IDE and try installing again or you may have to download the 64-bit of Ubuntu...

By the way, are you downloading x84 version or x64 version of Ubuntu/Zorin?

and another question... can you give me the specific location where your installation get stuck?

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Maybe you could try to use live-USB instead. It's much faster to install from USB rather than from CD from my experience in installing Ubuntu.

Linux can run in almost every partition given but prefer ext format for better performance but in exchange, windows would not detect your ubuntu partition and won't mount when you try to access it through windows.

NTFS also fine but Linux may have problem running on it and slower compare to ext format.

Instead of booting to live-linuxOS, when you boot live-cd or live-usb, just proceed to install immediately for faster installation but it can't update any missing files that is available through online...

flagstar 111 Practically a Master Poster

Your cd-rom might actually use SATA cable (red thin cable) instead of IDE cable (usually white and wide cable) so if you set yours from AHCI (Sata) to IDE, most SATA hardware will not work...

Usually setting up ACHI or IDE just to detect an external HDD with USB port seems unlikely to happen because external can run in both mode without any problem.

To confirms things up, you can try with another external (if you had another one) and test it on your computer. If it can't detect yours, then that means you have a missing driver that can let external to run in AHCI mode.

It's kinda rude to post this in all Capital Letters because it usually used for SHOUTING!! and/or MAD at something.

If you doesn't know how laptop works, better just send it to local store to take a look. Also when is the last time you used it anyway?

The links provided by flagstar is correct but most senior posters helping out in the IT Professionals Lounge will just down rep you and give comments that are not helpful to you. What they think is that students should pay more attention in class and not go to forums to ask for help about their project. So best not to post there. The networking forum should be the place you are looking for. Posters are willing to help you unless you have what in mind what to do.

The project title is the thing you must choose yourself. And halfway through the project you have problem, we can help you. So the decisions is yours. After that, we might be able to help you along the way by giving hints on what to do next or what to take note for your project. All the best!

Tip: It depends on what amount of effort you want to put it. Big projects may be better but it will not be easy. Know what you are capable of and work hard and success is yours.

Didn't know they'll down rep of someone who asking for help... I usually just hanging around in this forum so pretty much I don't know how members in different forum act. Glad you give a warning (especially me)...

Yes it'll run but check first for HDD port. Most P3 supported motherboard use IDE instead of SATA so you have to make sure your motherboard has SATA port or the HDD can't be used on your computer.

Go to Control Panel > Network Connections > right-click (<Active Connection>) > select properties

If you're on wireless, then go to desktop, double-click the wifi connection icon in system tray. It should be under Properties in same windows. You can configure it from there...

If you can, check through WinDirStat like Jingda recommended in previous post to find out which file makes that huge trash on your free space but you don't need to post here.

Check folders except WINDOWS and pagefile.sys to find out where it could clog...

or use CCleaner to clean up for you. If you've been using Chrome or going to heavy based websites or window updates, it might contribute to clog free space...

You mean when you use it halfway it turn off by itself right? How old is your laptop?

Your problem can be cause by an overheating issue. Clear the heatsink and fan. Check whether the heatsink is clogged with dusk if yes clear it and check whether the fan is working properly to cool the CPU. It should be spinning.

It was a laptop, not a desktop...
Much like Jingda said, might be overheating issue. Cleaning laptop fan can be difficult and I suggest you send it to local computer shop to clean it for you.

It doesn't need to be big to be a pc. For example, If you want to compare notebook and netbook, netbook is still consider a laptop, only smaller in size.

See if it can make outgoing/ingoing call function, much like modern phone does...

p/s: not the google shorten link.. I referring to the website. Web of Trust (WOT) mark it as red (not trusted) and I suggest you be careful when surfing on that site

MBAm is good and will remove most malware, just like what the above experts posters have said:)
You can do a malware scan using MBAm 2 times to make sure all malware is being clean up or removed. Malware remover tool will not conflict with Anti Virus. You might want to try out Spyware Blaster too.

Spyware Blaster should be installed after all malware/virus is removed from the system. Also, spyware blaster isn't for scanning for malware, it just prevent fraud websites and malware from entering the system. I also use one and updated every two weeks or so, good to say it protect my computer well enough for 6 month now...

The best option is to backup your email list, inbox and whatever you had in Windows Mail... Once you do, upgrade your vista to seven and check whether it still there and run normally. If it doesn't, just restore all the things you just backed up...

Consider this a self test method. Try first and learn. It won't hurt if you have backed up all necessary files.

Yes, it does this, so there must be something wrong with it.

I contacted the seller and he said at home he has a Card that i install into a pci slot, and comes with a disk that will add 5.1 surround sound.

Does that sound ligit?

Sorry, I can't understand that. Can you explain in a bit more detail?

If the seller got the driver for the c-media, might as well ask him to deliver those driver to you or upload it somewhere and give you the link for the driver. Maybe that would work...

When it comes to notebook hardware, I'm still newb so I can't help you much... sorry.
