That can be caused by number of things. 1. Corrupted registry. 2. Corrupted files. (system or programs) 3. Dying hardware (HD, RAM, Mobo...) You should try booting in safe mode (press and hold f8 while booting) and look in your event viewer (in "administrative tools" <- might be that you …

Registry files can be restored manually via MS-DOS prompt. System.dat and user.dat (in windows directory) are current registry and system.da0 and user.da0 are backed up ones (every restart backs them up). Simply by replacing them you would restore your registry to the state it was when you last shut down/rebooted …

You might need more power with all that, and don't believe every PSU declared power output. I also have 550 w PSU powering dozen of fans, 2 HDs, 1 optical, GeForce 7800 GT 512 M, 3 GHz AMD Athlon64, and when I run ASUS Probe (monitoring software), I see voltages …

I have a bunch of emulators (Amiga, C64-128, +4, ZX, Nitendo...) and 1000's of games for it. I don't miss it at all. Keeps me puzzled that the games are still beeing made for C64.

I had a similar problem, only it was solved by reinstalling Windows and my "CD drive" was able to read DVDs (as they were 4.8 Gig CDs). I had no autoplay functionality in a sense of playing Audio CD's or DVD Movies. Only data CD/DVDs worked normally (autoplay). And it …

To make things clear: Is it 80 Gig drive as it is described here? Is it 1250 or 250 meg partition? If you created any partition after this incident, then there is no practical way to recover your drive except restoring the backups from DVDs (ghost, drive imaging...). You can …

Such extreme slow-down can be caused by number of things: - underclocked CPU - lack of free HD space (almost no HD space) - viruses, trojans, adware, spywarwe... - HD issues (dying HD, bad cable connections...) a.k.a. PC having hard time accessing and writing to the HD - the list …

I have A8N Sli mobo, and only reason for the upgrade (apart from nForce 4 Chipset) is the socket 939. I had misfortune to buy my mobo just before the AM2 socket got released, and judging from the CPU prices, it was a bad timing for me. I don't know …

If the screen is all scrambled and laptop otherwise works as usual, then it is most defintly poor connection between layers and slots. I'll take that by "layers" you mean the very thin see-trough cables. The layers are tricky to plug in. They tend to bend. I suggest that you …

You didn't state the model of HD nor Chipset. Nevertheless, I had similar problem with my sata drive. There is one jumper that sets transferrate of the HD. In my case, it was set on 3Gb/s and Chipset (Nforce4) supports up to 2 Gb/s. The jumper sets it between 1.5 …

It can be done, but way to hook it up depends on your soundcard output. Number of output channels, to be precise. Ideal would be 5.1 output to match your home theater. If the number is greater than 5.1, then use 2xfront, 2xrear and center output channels and mute the …

Note: If your sound card is on-board (and it probably is), then downloading and installing Vista drivers for your motherboard (whole bunch) from your motherboard manufacturer's site, not NVIDIA or whatever chipset site, would solve your sound problem. Sound drivers may be downloadable separately.

How about a list of banned members? Since good and bad rep posts and infractions are for everyone to see via member profile, it would be educational for people around here to see just how you can get banned.

Every DVD drive has 2 sets of lens. One for CDs and one for DVDs. Obviously, CD lens are damaged or dirty. You might try the lens cleaner CD.

Tim, there could be number of reasons for this: - overclocked machine - lack of cpu/memory voltage (dying PSU) - bad RAM sticks - motherboard damage I suggest that you disable "quick boot" in your BIOS. It might pick up the problem (no quick boot = extended POST)

If I understand correctly, screen would go blank on you, and then go back to normal without any error messages, freezes and such. Sounds like a resolution/refresh rate changes. Those could be triggered by video driver (refresh rate overrides) and would appear when applications (read "games") starts/ends. Problem could occur …

First, couple of Q's. F10 is for the BIOS setup? Is there any video feedback? Are there any beeps? Did you try booting it up without the battery? If you don't get any video feedback, it probably means that your VGA is busted. And VGA being integrated with mobo, it …

Start up in safe mode (f8 during boot) and then you can change refresh rate back to ususal 60 Hz which is standard for all LCD displays. Or plug in external monitor to get video feedback without safe mode. (might require restart)
