If the monitor driver is the cause (I seriously doubt that) try NOT installing the monitor diver. The system works just fine without specific monitor driver. You can install the driver AFTER you installed the windows 98 SE. Here's the link for the driver package you need in case you …

Is this still on? I'm sure you meant "%SystemRoot%\fonts" where the %SystemRoot% variable stands for path to Windows installation directory. There is a way to bypass some of the setup checks that windows setup does and sometimes fails to resume with repair or fresh install. Setup program tends to check …

I believe that "865 GBF" is a chipset (Intel), and not a motherboard brand/model. Without knowing what motherboard you are referring to, it is not possible to know what VGA slot you have. Anyway there are 3 possibilities: AGP (x4 or x8), PCI-E (x8 or x16) and Crossfire (for ATI) …

There is 50-50 chance to be either CPU or motherboard. Only way to make sure which one is faulty, is to change the CPU and see what happens. Not advisable. Best thing would be for you to take the laptop to service shop. Or, you can take a chance, and …

I'll tell you what I did. I bought AMD Athlon processor and tossed away (not really, I still have it here) the heatsink and fan, and got myself a brand new Thermaltake Golden orb II (fancy name). It is a cheap (~$30) replica of Zalman (Zalman is like Ferrari with …

What you suffered from is called "identity theft". That is police matter. Only "evidence" you have is on your PC. Identity thieves usually use spyware that monitors your keyboard. That spyware usually keep records in your Windows\System32 folder. If you use anti-spyware software to clear your system, it will delete …

Asus K7MH7 is a cooling kit, not a motherboard model (on the pic). Motherboard model is one if these. I don't know if there is i815 HD size limit, but I've heard that there is a debilitating RAM limitation (512 MB). Anyway, any hardware HD size limit is only present while formatting the drive, and it can be overriden softwarewise. Othrerwise, you can format bigger-than-supported drive somewhere else and …

Did you try other DVI jack? From the looks of it, your VGA is dying (or almost dead). You should try your PC with known good VGA to make sure.

First, use protection (firewall and anti-virus). You have 2 suspects there: "O8 - Extra context menu item: Ebates - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates__MoeMoney__Maker\ebmmt\ebmmC5.htm" and "O9 - Extra button: Ebates - {F2B441CC-E026-47fb-BDC3-A07750FA3D2C} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates__MoeMoney__Maker\ebmmt\ebmmC5.htm (HKCU)" You can check them in your hijackthis and click on "fix checked", or you can try to …

I suggest that you allow windows help program the access to the registry, so it can function properly. I'm not familiar with McAfee in particular, but the general procedure is …

Forced flash, if gone bad, can be fixed if you have Floppy drive and boot floppy disk with BIOS file and flash program on it with command-line in the Autoexec.bat. The idea is that floppy drive controller is standard with most motherboards, so flashing the wrong BIOS would leave you …

There is program called "Asus update". That will update your bios. It is on your mobo CD. You can, also, take a look here. It's their ftp server (somewhat secret). You can always contact Asus for the correct BIOS update. I did, and I've got BIOS that is not available …

That can be related to the EMM386.EXE /highscan (in the config.sys). By default, windows setup removes /highscan switch. Check if the /highscan switch reappeared in your config.sys. Apparently windows don't like DOS memory controllers. On my machine with Windows 98, I have removed autoexec.bat and config.sys. They are not needed …

That can be caused by faulty HD. Or bad contacts on the HD cables. Try disconnecting your HD to see how it behaves (ex. if it crashes upon entering BIOS with no HD attached).

There are passive (read: no fan) CPU cooling, but looks to me that your fan turned into a chopper. Some BIOSes wouldn't let you turn on the PC if they sense that the fan is not working (rpms). Some newer boards even measure the fan's voltage. I hope that simply …

Judging form the symptoms, I would suspect the PSU to be the problem. Every PSU has a fuse and, if shorted, fuse can "pop". You can usually burn-marks inside PSU if you open it up. It is arguably the cheapest part of PC.

Yes, but with mini and midi towers it is practically impossible because of the lack of space. If you are talking about IDE drives, almost every PC has 2 IDE channels, and each channel hosts 2 drives. With SATA, you'll need at least 3 SATA channels to have 3 drivers. …

When you say "misreads the CPU" do you mean BIOS or windows? I'm not sure, but running 3200+ at 2200 looks like OCing (my case 3700+ @ 2200). Running 3200+ at 2200 with restarts looks like OCing with core voltage too low.
