Facebook Virus Kenny1x.exe

Unforunately, i was caught off guard and got the facebook virus and have noticed kenny18.exe running on my pc and have been searching for a way to get rid of it. I've been reading another thread here about it, but i didnt want to cause any confusion in that thread so I thought I'd start a new one. I will post my Hijackthis log. I'd like to post my Malwarebyte's anti-malware log, but after running it for over 8 hrs yesterday, it still didnt finish, i will have to run that again to get a result for posting.

Hi Tony and welcome to daniweb.
You are correct about that virus, there it is in plain site in your log.
Can't understand why Malwarebytes Anti-Malware would take so long to run.
Did you have all unnecessary programs stopped? You have a huge number running in the background in the HJT log.
Update that MBA-M program. Then, go OFFLINE. That way you can turn off your anti-virus program and a lot of other items running and try running that MBA-M again. Be sure all browsers, email programs, music programs, etc. are closed.
Maybe that will speed it up a bit.
Be sure to have it Remove everything found.
Shut down the computer. Reconnect the Internet Line
Reboot and run a new HJT scan. Post back here with both logs.

Hi Judy,

Thanks for the reply. For the majority of the time Malware was running, I did not use any other program, but i did do other things while it ran when I got home. I also just ran my anti-virus software scan, it didnt pick out kenny18.exe even though it scanned it. I will run Malware again tomorrow and hope it'll finish faster.

Also, i've also noticed the large amount of processes running during the day and I"m not really sure which ones i need and which ones i don't so i never really bothered with it. I'd like to minimize it though.

Until we know what this is for sure I would advise that you TURN OFF the computer OR disconnect from the Internet when not using it. Especially since you say there seem to be a lot of processes running during the day. We don't know for sure what they are, they could be downloader or something which connects to the Internet and downloads other Trojan horses or components.

TonyG., you missed the KEY sentence in the instructions for MBA-M

Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Which I again reiterated in MY instructions yesterday

Be sure to have it Remove everything found.

As you noted, the scan can take a very long time to run, this is why, especially with MBA-M you are instructed to definitely FIX what it finds.

You do NEED to do this ASAP. The longer you wait the more chance of getting more infections on the computer because several of the noted items found by the scan are Trojans
Here is a simple definition of an internet trojan from PC Magazine, note the words that I have bolded.

A program that appears legitimate, but performs some illicit activity when it is run. It may be used to locate password information or make the system more vulnerable to future entry or simply destroy programs or data on the hard disk. A Trojan is similar to a virus, except that it does not replicate itself. It stays in the computer doing its damage or allowing somebody from a remote site to take control of the computer. Trojans often sneak in attached to a free game or other utility.

Doesn't look too bad, though I do see references to BitComet which is a P2P file sharing program which is actually somewhat dangerous, can be illegal and can lead to infections.
Do you use this on a regular basis? This is definitely NOT something we encourage here

I use it here and there, but i understand what you're saying. Although I dont see kenny.exe running on "processes", i do still see it lying in my Window's folder. Would it be ok to just go ahead and delete it from there?

Go into Safe mode and see if you can delete it.

Hi,

I went into safe mode and deleted Kenny17.exe from C:\Windows, and now it appears to be gone from that folder in normal start-up as well. Hopefully this will has resolved the problem for good, but i'll be looking out for it for the next few days to see if anything happens. Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it! :)
