Im running windows vista and have been for about a year now, and for a wile my computer has not been able to restart. It shuts down fine, it turns on fine after being shut down, but it cant restart. If i go to the start menu and click restart, if i click the restart button, and if automatic updates tells me to restart and i do or if i try to shut down, it starts to shut down, and then just sits their.

Try doing it from command prompt.
Press Windows Key+R(or click on start then run) and type cmd press enter.
Then in command prompt type shutdown/r if it hangs as before then try to type shutdown/r /f. It it works when forced (/f -option) then their could be a process that is not stopping or exiting when you try to restart normally.
