i'm curious what your motivation for this is, but you could also play around with bridging the adapters on the server.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

the system is infected, update your antivirus program.
also check for windows updates

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

that is funny...can't you just find it and delete it?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

you can "run..." services.msc from the "run..." line or from CMD...
then, you can check to see if "windows installer" is enabled. mine is set to manual...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

and also thanks for changing the logout action, now it logs out and stays on the page you are on.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

wow i found another 2 cents in the air...how about like an IT trivia section for noobs only? trivia could come from commonly asked questions that are so annoying(to some)....it would need guaranteed rep pts. for first correct or best/first answer. and harder trivia could reward more extra bonus pts. m
the details are up to y'all, but i think maybe like once or thrice a day at random times would be good....

-edit- popups maybe not the correct term(can't think of at moment) but i do like the mouse hover to see the first few thread lines, but they don't stay up long enough to read.
the voting comment hover is what gets in my way the most, along with of course, the blackout effect of the ads. but i can live with the ads...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

aha...i see...semantics are important....but it still kinda acts like a loop when combined with the increment(in my opinion). you have redeemed yourself to me. next time i will vote you up(your help has equalized the downvote i received from you).

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training
almost all of my complaints have been mentioned in this thread, mostly the new coding bugs. however,(of course) a few have not been mentioned:
1.searching for a topic within DW has never been easy, i can't think of the words to describe, but noobs keep posting the same questions over and over, but i do a search and nothing found(even though i know they exist!)
2.bugs,bugs,bugs, doesn't bother me personally, but it may seem unprofessional to noobs.
    a.when i logout, it logs me out, but then says "you're not allowed to do that!", what is that?
    b.too many hover pop-ups sometimes cause clumsy clicking
    c. compatibility view makes things worse
    d.i'd suggest more QA testing(on ALL browsers, in a sandbox) before implementing upgrades. and i'm not talking about automated testing, maybe recruit members directly to do QA. reporting bugs is not fun unless you enjoy it.
3.i had some more issues, but i forgot them, maybe i'll remember if/when they happen again.
    a. as i tried to post this, i was informed that my code snippet is formatted incorrectly. automation is killing education!
well, there's my two cents, don't spend it all in one place! haha
skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

I hope you are using a surge protector... perhaps hmmm. i am still wondering why the RAM wouldn't fit....maybe a shard of metal got into the RAM slot and caused a short? and now the replaced PSU is not giving enough power? try starting the machine with only power to the motherboard (no harddrive, no optical drives, no floppy, etc) check the rating of your new PSU compared to the old..enough power? but really i think a shard of metal is causing it.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

there is no bios shortcut, press f1,
if that doesn't work, take out the hard drive and usb drives and try again

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

F1 for bios on older hp(i have one), sounds like your hard disk is dead(i could be wrong,but i got five dead IDE hard drives that i don't know where to recycle)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

did i say it was the same? I'm not talking about HyperV, my friend.
what about VMware, virtual PC, virtual box
why don't you teach me all about those programs, cocolio? since you are so smart...OP is banned anyway

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i have not touched a code in over ten years, but isn't the "if" class a loop? how are you NOT using a loop?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

control panel->clock, language and region
only for ultimate & enterprise!
here->http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Install-or-change-a-display-language

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i have noticed "chinese language support" that get installed using windows update. i never use a different language, so i don't really know, but it also depends on the version of windows 7 used.
possibly you could re-install the OS for a different language(using windows AIK).
i'm on my XP, i'll reboot and switch to windows7, check things out, than post again if i got more to offer

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

first step to troubleshoot is roll back the driver and or unistall update...maybe not...other things to try can be display settings and switching plugs etc...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

It may be a feature that you can turn on or off from link on control panel->add/remove programs.
Or you need the language pack for vistalator; http://www.7tutorials.com/install-change-new-display-language-windows-7-home-professional-vistalizator

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

Does Windows ME have a task manager? Perhaps the System Monitor ITSELF is what is using the CPU!

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i agree with repliers,
virtualization(emulation) can help run some vintage stuff. problems also happen with 32-bit processors(x86)
another workaround would be installing vintage OS on seperate partiton(instead of virtual).
i remeber hearing somewhere the root cause was something like Win7 does not support apps meant to run on a FAT/FAT32 formatted disk, because win7 will not run on FAT itself....

I always try compatiblity options before more drastic measures(depending on importance, like the software that runs my old scanner so old not supported even by XP!)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

going to run into trouble if the vista partition is the system partiton...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

that's not a question!

-edit- i read the first and last of those 6 Douglas Adams' books. the question is...silly.
someday i want to read the four books in between.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i agree with itg-jm,

i am curious if there is any follow-up questions.....?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

good as a number as any!

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

not the first time...and certainly won't be the last :D

it all boils down to who gets the last word...and i think it should be the OP.....
certainly Daniweb should be able to track IP addresses....
unless IP spoofing is still a problem...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

from now on, i will try not to let little haters bait me into breaking the rules...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

naw...i just thought i was gonna get banned

-edit and when i get banned from things...i prefer to never come back :)
thanks for the empathy/sympathy

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

:) :(

or is it :( :)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

you are a skilled and practiced liar...

-edit goodbye, Daniweb...it was fun while it lasted.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

money doesn't grow on trees, but it is made from trees

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

AND... THERE WAS NO COMMENT IN the down-vote until i sent you a PM!

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

newbies never answer, anyway, why you picking on me?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

get a real life

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

why do get a down-vote? i already passed C++ in college(university)ten years ago. and i've only looked into VB in the past 24 hours...just trying to help with a little suggestion....that's why i hate fools...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

why do i get a down-vote? i already passed C++ in college(a real university) ten years ago. my suggestion comes from 'excel VBA for dummies' the only reason i'm starting to look at VB is for a job opportunity...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

yes, reformatting will fix it, but the files will be lost..sometimes you gotta reformat with other formatting apps(or a different OS). if windows 7 detects the problem, sometimes it tries to recover the files, but usually only fragments. then then files are called 'found.001','found.002', etc. but i don't know what to do after that...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i also i am just finally getting around to learning about VB(8 hours ago!).

what you can do(if you have EXCEL installed) is use the macro recorder.
choose a cell. click the macro recorder button.
fill out the pop-up window
do want you want the code to do in that cell.

click developer, code, stop recording .

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

lol @ 'nothing but cockroaches. And possibly windows OS'

what i am actually worried about is heat from the main solar flare chamber of the sun finally aiming at the earth for the first time in thousands of years(the sun spins). that heat will not burn us, but the magnetoshpere will transfer the heat to core. and this will cause all sorts of problems(polar ice melting, etc). i will be watching the northern lights in December for sure, if i can. :)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

exactly as i thought. OP has still not responded

-edit- check the OP's profile for last login, they probably never even read my recommendation...

2 posts, both in this thread

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

ok...i realize your username is new on Daniweb, and i apologize for such a rude greeting.
Did you notice how i am the only one who answered? it is becuase your question makes no sense. what do you mean "trying to connect to professor's terminal'

what do you expect to happen when you type anything , the characters not to show?
did you hit 'enter'

what are you trying to do? a remote logon?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

oh...probably someone just yanked it outta there while data tranfer was still in progress..without clicking the 'safely remove hardware'...i'm not sure if that's fixable.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

what about spear-phishing? ok... i'll shut up..i tend to always imagine the worst..no need to reply, this is not my thread anyway

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

oh i know why i was confused, i thought they meant 5 bits for the subnets THEMSELVES, not for the subnet ID's as is the case. i simply misread the question...oops

-edit but then, wouldn't that be 29 bits for the ID's?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

not really if you add the total of all 5 binary digits, you get 32+16+8+4+2+1= 63.
and 255 minus 63 is 192. so i'm thinking it's 255.255.255.192...

anyway, does anding fit in this thread somewhere?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i did almost the exact same thing about a year ago, ending up clearing the CMOS with the jumper. an IBM thinkcentre cpu intel dual core 2.4ghz mobo 775. but my problems all started because of overheating. it is still sitting in the corner, collecting dust....i want to get another mobo to test the cpu. but never any extra $ or time....

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

booting into safe mode by holding f8 during power up and startup. and then restarting again might fix it, as well.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i'm totally confused
i thought 255.255.255.0 is equal to 11111111 11111111 11111111 00000000

like this?
0 =1
1=2
10=3
11=4
100=5
101=6
110=7
111=8
1000=9, no 1000=8 , so zero is still zero, i guess.
