Thanks once again for your suggestion........:)

Google keep ther algorythm to themselves since it is the cornerstone of their business. If everyone had the algorythm then anyone could build a competitive search engine.

But as for how search engines work and rank pages there is a lot of info out htere so use that secret google algorythm and start reading:

Well thanks once again Ryshad..........:)

well I can tell you Google didn't write it. they based their entire empire on something they paid for with petty pocket change.

Its a great system, they have evolved the original algorithm a bit. It is unclear to me why you would post this question in the C# forum. if you were wanting to create your own web search system there is an asp.net daniweb forum. if you are interested in setting up a windows forms search system there is a keyword scoring system that can be used to do a pretty good search.

Are you sure about that? As far as I know Larry Page and Segey Brin wrote the algorithm known as "Page Rank" while they were @ Stanford. Stanford owns the patent for PageRank but Google has purchased exclusive use of the patent until 2011. This intangible asset is included in Google's annual report filings with the SEC. I'm sure it has changed since then but it was their start.

Anyway Google does a number of things. You're better off reading the "SEO" forums here on daniweb and on the internet. There is all sorts of factors regarding the prominence of a word as it would be displayed on the webpage (using inline markup, not CSS). Words in the h1,h2,h3 count more respectively. Having a keyword in the domain name and page title also helps. Inbound links to an individual page where the anchor text keyword jives with the page's content also helps increase a page's placement on SERP in addition to promoting its' PageRank.

yes I am SURE they bought the algorithm from another company there was a 2 segment special on the discovery channel all about the history of the internet and there was a 15 minute featurette on google. I have it tivo-ed somewhere I can clip it and post it if you need proof. :)
