go to run... type in cmd, click ok. type ipconfig and press enter. look at the # to the right of Default gateway. type your "default gateway" number into the address bar in your web browser. it will probably be something like 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.1.1 depending on your ISP. If …

is it also possible that your .5Gb is being used up in "invisible" traffic, like packet headers and CRC data?

copy that text into notepad and save it as a something.reg file. then you should be able to double click it to add it to your registry. but it could still be a problem with your ISP (or their providedd equp.) also so as not to be off topic, i …

from what I understand of it, you need to install a patched driver to put your card into promiscuous mode. once in prmsc. mode, as long as kismet supports your drivers, you can packet sniff to your hearts content.

Cozzy is completely right. only the reg edit, or a prog. that creates/prevents reg changes can act this way i.e. spysweeper, win patrol, norton, mcafee, ect...

First I would look into getting an SFTP server and client (secure file transfer protocal). Then, I would use 7-zip, winRAR, or some other compression tool to compress these large files while simultaneously breaking them into smaller fragments that may have an easier time being uploaded/downloaded en mass.

and yes, you will have to format the drive to install XP, there is no downgrade option I am aware of.

I think this is totally up to your DNS. check with your DNS host and see if you can set a port to forward to as well as the IP (which you have already done.) you could also setup port forwarding in your router to make any WAN IP connection …

this sounds more like a RAM, VideoCard, or HDD issue more than anything else consider pulling your second stick of RAM (the one furthest from the CPU/Heatsink) first and reboot, then if it still happens pull the other stick and put the first one you pulled back in. (also run …

Not to worry. This is a common socket error. If not, worst case scenario is replacing some software. first get the laptop and download Winsock fix, run it on the 98 machine and reboot. if that doesn't work, make sure you have your WINDOWS 98 INSTALL DISK. open add/remove programs …

you could just set the power profile of their computer to turn off LAN connections when it goes to standby, then set standby @10 minutes.

i would reinstall the NIC drivers on your desktop, update the firmware in your router, and re-run the network setup wizard. You'd be suprised what that can fix.

I've been looking into it myself trying to decide b/t CCNA and MCSA/MCSE... The easy answer is get both. it looks like the first one to get will be determined by what areas intrest you more, maintaining a server heavy infrastructure or maintaining the routers and switches in said environment. …

i would first check for a bridged connection on the desktop. Remove the bridge if it contains a 1394 adapter. can you ping the Desktop from the laptop (vice versa)? can you ping the default gateway from your desktop or at least view the router from the desktop?

go get the norton removal tool and NOD32, maybe treat yourself to a little kerio firewall, you'll be fine.

I've always found it impossible to file share accross a bridged connection. Something about not being able to fileshare accross Internet Conection Sharing going all the way back to win 9x.

In theory, yes, it can work. In practice, the WRE54Gv1-3 sucks for many reasons. That being said, I'm not just here to bash your stuff. Try connecting the router and just one (the v3) range expander. It might be busted out of the box. Also, make sure all your firmware …
