WARNING!!!

if you try this:
Do a FULL System Restore Backup Point RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!

there is a zip file below.

now. I want you to look for this file:

C:\Windows\system32\taskbarcpl.dll

does it exist?
if it doesn't, then that is your answer. It is included in the zip file I will attach in a minute. you may need to drop into safe mode (there are 10 million tutorials on how to do that, google is your friend, please) and then add this file to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder.

next to it are the reg keys that I found that seem relevant. They are all imported into one .reg file that you click on to import.

import that at your own risk.
It should reset the taskbar pin-to settings to default, try as a last resort, I guess.
will only work in safemode.

there is an image below that shows you the details of my copy of that .dll file:

right click on the file in YOUR C:\Windows\system32 and see if it matches (the dates will be different)

the filesize of mine is:
(win7 home prem x32)
228 KB (233,472 bytes)

if yours is different, there may be a problem. try copying mine over yours (in safe mode)

that is all I can think of at the moment.

please post back with your results!

My windows vista has been unable to completean update and going round 3 0f 3 % completed. the system keep rebooting itself.please help

You may not like this. you will find that it keeps hanging on the same update. I will give you the quick version. If you need the longer explanation, then I will try to help you. I will tell you what to do, If I do not get back in a timely manner, you will be able to google for all of the proceedures on the net already.

this is the first thing to try:

Some of the updates released on February 12, 2008, as a part of the Microsoft monthly patch cycle, have managed to effectively kill Windows Vista. Users are reporting that, following the introduction of the February 12 updates, Vista gets stuck at the finalization of the deployment of the updates displaying the message "Configuring Updates Stage 3 of 3 0% completes" and then entering an infinite reboot loop. And there is absolutely no way out for the end users, because canceling the configuration process of the updates is a move equivalent to losing access to the operating system entirely. This will even happen in Safe Mode.

Microsoft has yet to officially respond to the issue, or to provide a resolve or at least a workaround. However, it does seem at this point that there is an issue with the deployment of the pre-requisite updates necessary for the smooth installation of …

To most christians, the bible is like a software license. Nobody actually reads it. They just scroll the the bottom and click "I agree."

nice.
I like to think that I am a 'practising christian'. yes, I do read that book. about a 1/2 chapter a night. Then spend 2h researching the passage. it has an intrinsic depth to it that a straight 'readthrough' will never reveal. very interesting.

anyway..

"One of its' legs are both the same."

one thing that I will say, it doesn't autostart with windows. you gotta set that up yourself. I wonder how many people think they are running this, when they are not.

Just Joined in, again. I first found out about this through ATI, the Graphics card guys, they used to supply the F@H software with every distro. I think it didn't catch on, because they didn't really explain it that well.

anyway. I have added my PC to the list for now. 4x 3.2 core+ infinite RAM. yeah right. I will give F@H full control @ idle - as much as the config will allow. ups to dani.

digitalrajanna Hasn't replyed to this thread since his 1st post. whic means he doesn't need any more help. which means: any of:
1. he fixed it
2. he realised he made a mistake and neglected to inform us
3. he is messing with us.
4. any, all, or none of the above (something else entirely)

What ever the case, I think we should all stop adding suggestions until he replies, because without his feedback, or someone else calling in with the same problem, suggestions to fix an (impossible) problem are pointless, and give this thread higher rankings than it deserves.

Well, that's just my opinion, anyway.

First, do me a favour and run the Eset online scanner.
http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
that will clean you up.

If it is definately still a hijacked iexplore causing an issue, uninstall it. But download a browser first, like ie8 or firefox

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html

then delete any left overs from the registry
(let me know if you do not know how to do this.)

then install iexplorer8, or firefox (a safer, less venerable alternative to ie)

You don't need to reinstall the player after deleting those keys. but you might need to either "search for new devices" in device manager, or reboot the PC.

The keys will automatically repair themselves upon first use of the DVD / CD, etc...

it usually comes up as code 41 ->
I have a forum that discusses it, but it is full of popups and rubbish you have to sift through.

This seems to be caused by, or happens some time after an install of itunes 8 or lower. have not had it with itunes 9 yet.

anyone out there have this issue, that does not have itunes 8? (or quicktime?) I would love to know.

if you need any further help, please ask me :-) (or the other guy that mentioned those filters /registry keys first)

The Gift I recieved was a Day WITHOUT any technology. A whole day spent in the company of my wife. Gest gift ever. And never a xmas tree in sight. Yay!

hotmatrixx 21 Posting Whiz

I never understood the 'war on xmas' stuff - how is "Happy Holidays" an evil thing? Christmas is Dec. 25th - that is the day to wish someone a Merry Christmas. Do you wish someone 'happy Thanksgiving for weeks before the day? The winter solstice is such a good time for a holiday that almost all religions have a 'special' day during that time of the year. Rather than try to remember all those different holidays, it seems to me that Happy Holidays works pretty well.

hey, man. the war on xmas has little to do with the date. It is about forcing everyone else to celebrate a certain way (trees+lights+furry red fat guy) when not everyone wants to be bombarded with that way of thinking.

Hey, there are a lot of 'Christians' that don't celebrate xmas, because they believe it is based on incorrect and/or corrupt assumptions. (like biblically the date of Jesus birth is not dec25, for eg).

You don't see the Jews pushing Hanakah in everyone's faces, they just go about it quietly. you know it is there, but it isn't shoved down your throat.

Besides, the only peple that push xmas are commercially oriented anyway - big business. xmas is big $$. New zealand (4 million people) spent 2.6 billion$ on dec 24 alone, with 134 transactions per second (eftpos only, not including cash, credit etc). most of those shoppers look stressed, not happy.

So the war on xmas is really a …

Very funny. A reinstall would work too

No, a reinstall probably wouldn't fix it.

Try this:

Rightclick on the installer
second option in the context menu should be ""troubleshoot Compatibility T

Run through that in xinXP SP2 modeW" or what ever.

Or you could type ""compatibility in to the start->searchbar and hit "run programs made for different versions of windows"
