From experience I'd avoid the free variants such as Avast! and AVG, although tempting as it can save you upwards of £60 they rarely detect everything. There are benefits and drawbacks to most of the products available, so it's worth looking for one that matches your needs.

NOD 32 is powerful but Norton 360 has more features as well as home network monitoring.

Having used the final retail version of the new iPad earlier today, and as an owner of an iPad 2; first impressions I'd have to be honest and say I would struggle to distinguish the two if asked based on appearances only.

It releases tomorrow at the same price points previously used for the iPad 2, which may heighten its appeal.

With some stores believed to be receiving between 25-50% of the units that would need to fulfil anticipated sales it could be an interesting day.

For those that haven't yet held the final version, it is slightly thicker than the iPad 2 and the sides are slightly more curved. Although it's only slightly thicker, it is noticeable.

Whether it was just the lighting in the office or whether they've modified the lens I'm not sure, but the front camera did appear to have more of a blue tint than my iPad 2.

Although there have been rumours of it being released with an infamous 'iOS6', the one I had was still running standard iOS5.1

The screen was most certainly clearer; the colours did also appear more vibrant and lifelike and really came into its own when the camera was used.

Although I was aware of the internal changes; and the screen aside, I couldn't see that much of a difference.

I know there has been all sorts of hype and excitement since the announcement, but I can't help but feel it's …

In order to connect to the configuration page, your computer must be going directly through the router via either wireless lan or ethernet.

Once you're connected to your router, you'll be able to navigate to your router's IP address. (CMD > ipconfig - locate 'default gateway'. The address here is the IP of your router)

Belkin routers usually display a login page, unless you've set a passwork leave the box blank.

Another (related) topic may be, if there is any way to tweak basic settings for a Wireless NIC that would improve reception in fringe or border regions of a router. My nic is also a Linksys: WMP54G .
I've got a laptop with another Linksys pci card I want to setup and fire up to test if my NIC in the pc is just bad/broken antenna or something. b/c I USED to get an excellent signal here.

Evening,

With regards to the former, I'm not sure of that exact model but only a few routers will do what you're asking. As mostly they're designed to send data and provide an AP not connect to one.

Belkin do a number of products in a reasonable price range that may do it, something like a Belkin Gaming Adaptor with a higher gain aerial attached.

Onto the latter issue, a standard 54G wireless card isn't ideal for what you're using it with. A MIMO or even N card would be far superior, even though it's probably only a G router the better adaptor would still boost your receiving power somewhat.

Hope this helps,

Hello!

If you're thinking of buying a copy of Ms Vista (especially Home Premium) then you should open the pack and check the disk while with the staff member that served you if possible.

As there have been quite a few recent instances of them containing Home Basic, Ms are aware of the problem but haven't yet come up with a solution.

Most retailers won't yet have a process in place for dealing with this so it's best to check it while still in the store.

A Week in the Life Of a System Administrator
http://www.avdf.com/jan98/images/hrline2.gif

MONDAY
8:05am
User called to say they forgot password. Told them to use password retrieval utility called FDISK. Blissfully ignorant, they thank me and hang up. God, we let the people vote and drive, too?
8:12am
Accounting called to say they couldn't access expense reports database.Gave them Standard Sys Admin Answer #112, "Well, it works for me." Let them rant and rave while I unplugged my coffeemaker from the UPS and plugged their server back in. Suggested they try it again. One more happy customer...
8:14 am
User from 8:05 call said they received error message "Error accessing Drive 0." Told them it was an OS problem. Transferred them to microsupport.
11:00 am
Relatively quiet for last few hours. Decide to plug support phone back in so I can call my girlfriend. Says parents are coming into town this weekend. Put her on hold and transferred her to janitorial closet down in basement. What is she thinking? The "Myst" and "Doom" nationals are this weekend!
11:34 am
Another user calls (do they ever learn?). Says they want ACL changed on HR performance review database so that nobody but HR can access database. Tell them no problem. Hang up. Change ACL. Add @MailSend so performance reviews are sent to */US.
12:00 pm
Lunch
3:30 pm
Return from lunch.
3:55 pm
Wake up …

Thanks for your suggestions guys...
I really like Samsung, LG, and Nokia phones...
I've heard that Motorola isn't as good as people say, almost all of my friends have a Razer and they messed up in the first month. But I do think they're really cool in appearance.

personally you'd be wise to stay away from the motorola's, i bought a pink RZR V3 for my sister when they first came out; looks nice but usless, batter won't last the whole day!

samsung are pretty good, the U600 would be a good buy, also the D600 with 3D sound.

although i currently have an orange SPV M700 (HTC) which is pretty cool, windows mobile 5. whereas most sony ericsson's run on the symbian platform which means they are generally a lot more stable than the others.

hope this helps,

you own a bowling alley? - awesome

Not as funny as today though, i was out and my dad decided he wanted to move his pc upstairs, away from the switch but he knows nothing about networks so he went to townand baught a wifi card for it and paid £80 quid to have the guy install and configure the network for him.

This guy about had a heart attack when he came the next day when he came and saw our network. And i quote:

"wheres the pc"
"upstairs"
"wheres the router and whats the passwords"
"downstairs, in the rack, user root, password toor"
(he about died when he saw my openbsd rackie)
"uhh... wheres the xp?"
"in the bin"
"what"
"it doesnt run xp"
"but it has to"
"-sigh-"
"it runs linux - look, can you do it or not"

The guy practically ran away - must of been about 17 and had probably never seen a real, secured network in his life

i love salesguys like that (not litterally of course  ) you can eat them for breakfast lol, had to explain to a sales guy in the link other day the difference between the version of bluetooth and class of bluetooth (in his defence he looked about 12) you can have soooo much fun though! :cheesy:

you'll have to post some pics of this bowling alley though dani! :cheesy:
