There is no "DaniWeb Community Features" section in the sidebar. There is a "DaniWeb Community Feedback Features" that you see because you're in the DaniWeb Community Feedback forum. If you were in the C++ forum, it would dynamically change to C++ features, and so forth.

Somehow something got cached wrong. I rebuilt your user profile (told the database to recalculate stuff) and it all seems to have sorted itself out on its own.

This is the correct way to tally votes when someone can vote more than once. Regardless of whether someone votes more than once, 47% of all those polled use Java. 47% of all those polled use C++. Obviously that means that there are some people who use Java AND C++. …

I know, it's currently a bug at lower screen resolutions. I'm looking into a fix. In the meantime, if you want to read your PMs, scroll to the bottom of the list to where it has Display Options and click the little up arrow in the top right corner of …

This isn't a philosophical question at all. It's actually quite cut and dry. Computers are female because they have female ports. Cables and peripherals, likewise, are male.

At the bottom of the thread (but above the tags) click the Thread Tools dropdown menu and select Edit Thread.

I think a really cool idea with the code snippets would be if we could start tagging them by functionality. For example, tagging them as "algorithms" or "graphics" or "games", etc. This way, the vBulletin advanced search feature can be used in the future to find all PHP graphic code …

We're doing some exciting new things with tags but it seems that adoption to use them has been slow. I'd like to encourage everyone to please start tagging your threads. The more people who do it, the more they get noticed and other people start. Tagging is a great way …

What do you look for when swapping links? Look for sites that are in your industry, share a common audience but aren't your direct competitors, and are sites you would like to exchange website traffic with. I don't believe they have a negative effect to SEO unless you participate in …

Quick response before I head into the office for the day: When viewing a post, click the user's name and in the dropdown select "Find all posts by X" without having to go into their profile at all.

Our site search feature (in the navigation menu) is based off of Google's enterprise search product, so basically it's based off of Google crawling our pages and indexing them, the way that they would do for the rest of the web. If you use the forum search feature (www.daniweb.com/forums/search.php) it …

The reason why only a handful of people used to post non-snippets in the snippet section was because only a handful of people realized that we had a code snippet library to begin with. By keeping it separate, it took double the marketing effort to promote the [popular] forums and …

That's pretty decent. Depending upon the sections of my site and how many ads I show per page, I end up being in the 3% range. The link directory is crazy at 8%, but I think that's because it somehow sorta mimics the look of AdWords in the right sidebar …

The confusion as to what to use for what is one of the main reasons why I've been so late getting into the social media game. The various choices became too overwhelming that I eventually just gave up and didn't use anything. For example, if I want to tell the …

I *just* started getting into Twitter and I've definitely noticed that retweeting can be very helpful for a publication like DaniWeb when people retweet and retweet news stories.

CSCGal = Computer Science Gal Came up with it when I was in college pursuing my B.S. in Comp Sci. It's also my car's license plate. Actually ... it STARTED as my car's license plate. I later needed an internet alias and decided to name myself after my car.

Deduplication used to be an exclusive tool of the large enterprise, with an imposing cost, a daunting learning curve, and – with file-only deduplication – a limited ability to use deduplicated data to restore a failed machine. Until now, deduplication has been too expensive to implement in any but the …

So you're suggesting that if someone posts in the c++ forum, that they not tag their thread c++ because that is automatically assumed, and this way the tag cloud within the c++ forum can focus around different c++-related things instead of just the word c++ itself ... ????

You just posted the same link that sam09 did? Also, sam09 is talking about the same content under multiple URLs on the same page. Duplicate content is usually revolving around the same article or content across multiple websites (aka plagiarism).
