When you put your hdd in your friends pc you would most likely have had to change the jumper settings to get it to work. Check them.

have you actually remembered to apply to the cpu: Thermal glue (important!) heatsink(s) cpu cooler? A ran a cpu without thermal paste once and it fried it permanently

Bear in mind that you cant go and replace a laptop fan with any old one, sometimes there model specific. Also some laptops fans dont run until they are needed.

Yeah, you need to replace the CMOS battery. It looks like one of the round ones from a watch (quite big) and is on the motherboard. DIAGRAM FIRST as replacing it upside down or back to front will break your motherboard.

You will need to download the sound drivers from either your motherboard manufacturers site (if its onboard) or the company that made the card if its a plug-in model.
