Re: Google definitely favors links that are part of sentences and phrases as opposed to standalone. The best way to do it is
<a href="http://www.mysite.com/">keyword</a> service for free
Notice how it's a phrase or sentence with only the keyword hyperlinked, so as to not dilute the keyword value in the link. …
Re: Use DHTML - similar to the dropdowns that appears in certain areas here on DaniWeb. For example, see the Thread Tools menu just above? Check out www.dynamicdrive.com for some handy DHTML things you can do. Also, sometimes a little bit of CSS is all you need!
Please help me! I seem to have fallen into a google slump. In April, the site was redone with a new navigation scheme. Soon after, the latest version of my mod_rewrite hack was applied, which changed around a bunch of the links. (More stuff was mod_rewritten than ever before). At …
Re: Hello cybersaber! Welcome to DaniWeb. I had to snip our your URL because this forum is a place to introduce yourself, not introduce / advertise your website. Please don't plug in here ;) Thanks!
Anyone have any clue what's been going on with DaniWeb lately. They're reporting I have a million backlinks ... and I don't have near a million pages? ;) In addition, I've been hearing of a PR update going on. With a million backlinks, don't you think I should be at …

Re: Hey there! Welcome to DaniWeb! In the future, please be sure to read the forum-specific announcements. This forum has a rule specifying: [i]Also, this forum is to introduce yourself. Re: Out of only twelve options to select, I'm a bit surprised that one of them is Slashdot. Targeted towards techies (more specifically, OSTG open source techies), it's obviously such a niche audience I'm surprised Google is including it.
Re: What ISP are you using? I know if you use AOL, it converts standard .gifs into its proprietary .art compressed format, and that may be a reason why gifs aren't being animated? I doubt you're using AOL though ... try saving one of the images to your hard drive and …

Re: All that I can suggest is calling Microsoft's toll-free number to take care of this. It's a pretty efficient system, doesn't take longer than a minute. And it's a lot cheaper than buying another retail Windows XP license ;) I've called up in the past, quickly explained the situation, and …
Suppose a site generates all of its revenue via Google AdSense. Is it best to put an AdSense banner in the same spot consistantly throughout the site? Or is it best to use different variations of the ad size and ad placement on different pages? Which is more user friendly? …
Re: Whoa! First I must commend you on 40,000+ posts per month, that is QUITE the amazing accomplishment. I can only dream DaniWeb will one day get that big. However, I do understand the problem, and I think it's the same one that nearly all forums suffer from. The problem is …
Re: 1.25 x 100 = 125 23 x 100 = 2300 19.99 x 100 = 1999 Whether there is or isn't a decimal place, multiplying by 100 should work. No?

You can easily change the look back to the Windows Classic Start menu by following …
Re: cPanel is a popular server maintenance software that is often used for webhosting accounts. It is very possible that many major sites use cPanel. Personally, I am not a fan, but instead use their major competitor, Plesk, here on DaniWeb. I'm not sure why you might be seeing that on …
Re: Just once is more than enough. Even that isn't necessary ;) Google finds your site by reaching it from other sites that link to you - thus the nature of the world wide web - a giant network of hyperlinks. Therefore, the key to getting high rankings on google is …
Re: Absolutely! You should check out our links page more often ;)
Re: I, along with inscissor, have majors in Computer Science and minors in Business Computer Information Systems (basically a CIS degree brought to you by the university's business school). Comp Sci definitely holds a lot more weight. CIS is really good if you want to do less science / math theory …
Re: A feature that will be coming very soon is the ability to syndicate blogs via RSS feeds. I'm not familiar with GnomeBlogger at all. I did a Google search and am still sorta confused. Can you shed some light on the subject please? Thanks!
Re: REALbasic is comparable to VB6 - perhaps a little more stripped down than even that. I have the mac version and wasn't aware there was a windows equivalent. Good alternative to doing VB-style coding on the mac platform (OSX native). I would also assume that if Microsoft is putting out …
Re: You tell the domain's registrar service - be it Network Solutions, GoDaddy, etc - to point to your DNS server.
Re: Hey there and welcome to DaniWeb. :) If you'd like to post a site review, you can do so once you hit the ten post minimum in the site reviews forum :)
Re: Welcome coosh! I'm glad you found DaniWeb helpful. Be sure to stick around :)
Re: Hey there vord. You guessed it, it's custom written. While Morgan conned me into releasing my mod_rewrite tutorial ;) I would rather keep everything else I have on DaniWeb exclusive to DaniWeb. Tech forums nowadays are a dime a dozen, and it's our unique portal, blogs, code snippets, tutorials, irc …
Re: People would rather give their birthday instead of their year of birth. For example, I don't mind telling a forum that my birthday is November 11th so that this way, every year on my birthday, the forum system sends me a little happy birthday email :) (DaniWeb does this, for …
Re: I saw it available for download yesterday. But I was busy doing schoolwork so I figured I'd check it out later. And, alas, it's no longer offered!
Re: That would be great if only I could think of anything. What, oh what, do I have to offer? I don't deal with retail at all, and it would be counterproductive to offer some free advertising. Any ideas?

Re: Sorry, no experience with FindWhat. Although they are relatively small compared to Google or Overture. Do their sponsored results show up on other partner sites? Have you tried an AdWords campaign? I've found it to be more cost-effective than Overture. Good luck!!
Re: Thanks for the read. I remember back in the day when it was big news that Steve Jobs did this.
Re: PR and Alexa both have something very important in common - they are both ridiculously unreliable and a bad gauge of your SEO. Let's begin with PR. Google's algorithm is based on an internal PR that they secretely assign to every webpage. However, this isn't the value that they display …

Re: I think it's important for the usernames to remain anonymous. They're supposed to be a more unbiased feature, and I think anonymity is important to community building without childish slander. Basically, when someone gives you positive feedback, your reputation is increased. When someone gives you negative feedback, your reputation is …
For those of us who are using the new image-only AdSense feature, how can we get rid of the Nexium Purple Pill ads? I tried blocking the www.purplepill.com domain, but no go. I would assume they are one of the new CPM campaigns being run for select advertisers, as their …
Re: I vote no. I feel that even if it's just on a subconscious level, people form biased opinions of people based on where they're located. The whole point of an online community is to be able to interact with others who share your interests in a way that is impossible …
Re: Wow!! Thanks :) Appreciate the comments! Enjoy. What is the difference between include() and require() ?
Re: I like Spotlight. That's really the only noticable difference for me. Dashboard seems to be more of being there as a bell and whistle eye candy instead of anything useful. Maybe that would change with more widgets. I love my good ole Expose though. |
