antivirus? make sure to uninstall any programs you don't use. try running internet explorer without any add-ons.... it basically sounds to me like you need to clean your computer a bit

I don't know that you should need to open any ports. Is there a reason you aren't using private IP addresses in the LAN? You'll have to search for the exact ranges but they're around: 10.0.0.1-10.255.0.0 172.0..0 whatever something 192.168.0.0-192.168.255.255,learn subnetting if you need to

i am still only level 1 helpdesk, but antivirus is important, right? firewall is also important if you're using Microsoft perhaps you could use remote desktop to install stuff or maybe combine netsh with msiexec.exe here is a page about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Installer -edit and WMI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Management_Instrumentation

you need to set static IP addresses(for microsoft, i don't know Apache) i really don't think DNS will work without IP addresses... unless you're creating a new DNS system for the world :) were you using IPv6 or 4?

here is for RIS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Installation_Services if you learn to use WindowsAIK, you can create your own install disk. your custom install disk can have scripts to set up group policy. or you can type "gpedit.msc" to manually control group policy
