Do you allow your member profiles to be guest accessible? Why or why not? Do you allow member contact info (email, IM) to be publically displayed and potentially picked up by spiders?
Re: I am very much not a fan of phpAdsNew. On all but the smallest sites it is rather sluggish, and the code is very inefficient. Unfortunately I don't have any other free solutions for you either, though.

Re: Unfortunately, it's the static ads which don't produce any revenue, but the Flash-based ads and interactive ads which make up roughly half of our revenue (with the other half being Google AdSense, IntelliTXT, and link sponsors). Because advertising campaigns are either prepaid for or through advertising agencies (which I have …

Re: The blogging system isn't a feature of the vBulletin forum system that the forums are based off of. It is my own creation which I developed from scratch. Quite simply, I never took the time to code a preview feature. It was never removed - it just was never coded …
Re: Some emergency maintenance needed to be done to our servers over the weekend. I have our systems administrator looking into it. For some reason it's not able to determine who is in the irc server.
Re: It may sound a bit ironic, but have you tried pay per click programs like AdWords? :) Oh ... besides search engines, eh? :) Post in forums and link to your site in your signature to not come off as a spammer. Banner advertising could work - you don't know …
Re: Well remember with Bootcamp, you can natively dual boot any Intel mac with Mac OS X and Windows XP.
Re: Can you get into windows via safe mode? If you can, you're on the right track. Perhaps as a last resort you will have to do a Windows XP repair via the installation cd.
Re: Actually, DaniWeb stopped using phpAdsNew last month. We now use a robust, professional third party ad server called AdJuggler (www.adjuggler.com). I think the clickthru rate depends mostly on how targeted the ads are ;)
Re: It's perfectly ethical for the owner of the server to do what he pleases with information that passes through it. Companies do this all the time when employees connect via a proxy server at work ... the employer reserves the rights to read and log any unencrypted transmissions that pass …

What is an average / target open rate for an HTML-based monthly newsletter? I am measuring open rate based on the number of hits a particular image within the newsletter gets. However, more and more email clients nowadays are disabling emails until the user clicks a link - and how …
Re: An absolute link is when you specify a URL path that is relative to the current document when linking between documents or to images. For example, if the page is http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/index.php then if you are trying to access http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/pagetwo.php, you would just use pagetwo.php.
Re: An absolute link is when you specify a full URL path when linking between documents or to images. For example, http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/index.php is an absoute URL.
Re: Not in this particular forum ... no site specific talk, remember ;)
Re: The reason why your thread hasn't gotten too many replies (so far) is because your question is pretty vague. It's basically a "what is everything I need to know to get started" type of thing. For starters, I will assume that you're not a web developer, and will therefore need …

Per a request, you can now sort your code snippets by the last time someone commented on them. You'll now be sure not to miss someone commenting on code you've posted.
Re: I looked into it but the vBulletin wysiwyg editor is just so convoluted and it would take actual hacking in a couple of places (as the inlinecode button is a custom button fetched from the database). Not so sure it is worth the extra mess to just hit a button …
Re: Make sure that you have a media kit, or some other advertising page, available on your site. You want to make it clear that you DO offer advertising - especially to those who might be interested. Re: It works because the brain has a preconceived notion as to what the human face looks like, and when it sees something like that, it gets very confused because it isn't what it expects.
Microsoft's Monopoly At this time, Microsoft owns an operating system monopoly with its line of Windows operating systems. UNIX, however, is an alternate OS mainly used by ... er, computer geeks. It's been out for many years and features a small kernel with all programs built around the kernel. This …
Re: vBulletin has pretty extensive usergroup customization. For each usergroup, you can set permissions as far as what they can and cannot do. You can also auto-promote users among usergroups based on certain criteria.

We all know how great Google AdSense is. However, what other programs are there out there? Has anyone had good performance with ValueClick, CJ, FastClick, Burst, etc? I use ValueClick but it doesn't generate nearly as much as AdSense does for me.
