It depends on my mood and means for participation. If I want to catch up and find out what is going on right now, I goto the portal. If I just want to process older threads and stay uptodate, I quickly goto the forum directly.

vBulletin version 3 has a quick registration form as default. The admin can pre select the default options and setup required fields (if any are needed) But a user can enter a user/pass and email and is signed up. (if email verification isn't turned on).

Maybe you got shared hosting :) A successful site that requires more resources? Maybe you have managed or dedicated hosting. …

A word document saved as .html page results in a 500kb file. Make this in any other html editor and the page results in a 100kb file. It is amazing how many useless and none-working code is inserted to try and emulate the design. Create a template and include the …

Out of Cur. You could check hotscripts.com for some serious asp/sql systems that have all these features and are easy to customize. It is worth to check, if not only to get innotive ideas for your own setup or to see the system requirements and learn from that :)
Generally, frames suck (just my 2 cents :)) I'd suggest not using frames, if you can.
Before ranting, make sure you know what you are talking about. Check the difference between a frame and iframe :) This thread is about iframes, and ranting on frames makes your post useless.

Nope, I have tried out at least 15, but they have all been very very very disappointing. The only free quality hosting I ever got was through sponsored web servers.

I think a web page that you download to your system shouldnt' be more then 64k max. It is kind of unspoken rule between web developers. And I agree. 100+ is maybe because its a big article. 250+ is maybe because it has a big image file but 300+ is …
