In Windows, simply push the "Print Screen" key, then open a program such as Paintbrush, and paste it in. For a single window, you can use Alt+Print Screen. This is really simple and doesn't support any fancy options like a timer or anything like that, but it "should" work across …

[QUOTE=twilli227]Which is better, dunno, what is it you are trying to do? Why don't you try them, and find out which works best for you. I could tell you which one is the clear winner, but that won't help you. My needs will probably be differant than your needs. Try …

Catweazle is definitely correct, but you also need to state your specific needs, and the things you do on the computer that would determine which OS to use.

Backups are a must. Redundancy is useless without a good, clean backup! :) If you go with Windows, I would recommend an SDLT drive for large ammounts of data. (up to 320gb compressed) For the software, use Veritas Backup Exec for Windows 9. Maybe you can get by with an …

If you have the Windows XP cd that came with the computer, or one that you bought on your own, then you can boot off of that and run the System Recovery tool and it can reinstall the Windows installation over your existing one, without too much damaga to the …

The inspiron 8x00 series is commonly known for having screen issues. The hinges flat out suck. I had a Dell technician come out to my house one time (it came with my warranty at the time) and he even said that the 8x00 series is known to have issues because …

My girlfriend is a bit emotional at times, which is normal, and healthy. She likes to play with photoshop, and has an interest in the things I do on the computer. She finds things like ssh+screen+ncurses, and VNC amazing. Having a girlfriend who is intrigued by technology, but not 100% …

I can vouch for Access terrible reliability when in heavy use. It works great for small applications, but something like this heavy calls for a full fledged database server. I can't tell you how much pain me and my boss have been through with Access at our clients.

I'm not sure what would be causing the problem, but it would be interesting to see what other protcols this intercepts. POP/SMTP seem to be fine. Can you have these people try accessing an https:// site, or even an ftp://

I don't know why it wouldn't display the POSTing process, but, you may want to disable iniitial boot memory checking in your BIOS. Not sure what BIOS that mobo uses, but I'm sure you could find it in there somewhere. Try disabling the boot time memory checking and see if …

I haven't used ME or the 9x series in quite some time but as I recall the folder was: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch or: C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\<some user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch In that folder is just shortcuts to your Quick Launch programs. For the "show desktop," the last I remember was that …

I agree. Bash (and others) shell scripts are awesome. Very low overhead, and very powerful for "quick-and-dirty" type tools, to more complex cgi scripts for a webserver. And just think, the only interpreter you need is your shell! :) Yes, shell scripts can be limited at times when compared to …
